Update: we went back again last night for dinner and our server was Tess; she is amazing! She is attentive and entertaining. The food was spot on as before, the lemonade was just right and the sangria was delicious.

We were on our way to another place to eat and decided to give this place a try. I happen to love Mexican food, as does another member in our group that day. We were promptly seated, and all the staff was super friendly. The place began to fill up quickly. I did order a frozen strawberry Margherita . I was surprised at the large glass it arrived in. This was also the first frozen Margherita I’ve had that was perfectly blended. In addition to the chips and salsa they bring to the table, we ordered the chips and queso dip. While their chips were just the right crunch and didn’t even need salsa or dip, both were delicious. I ordered the enchiladas with black beans and rice. The other members of my party ordered the fajitas. We didn’t wait long for our food to arrive and everything was delicious, just the right amount of spice. I’ve read several prior comments about the food being salty. Since I barely use salt when cooking or add salt to my food, this was not an issue at the time we were there. Definitely looking forward to going back.

Staff was great, food was amazing as well! I may turn into a regular here margarita was a bit sour but the food was so good it made up for it. Salsa felt fresh as well as the tortillas. Will definitely be back!

Food was good and service was great. I can tell the server wanted to make sure everything was good at our table. Only thing was I order the Burro tacos and got enchiladas instead and the waitress said oh no there enchiladas are named Burro. So, that was my mistake I guess but overall it was great.

The food was seasoned well, but may be over seasoned to some, which I understand. I would categorize this as a bit of an upscale Mexican restaurant with Cajun influence. The service was excellent and the staff friendly. It’s a newer restaurant so they are figuring things out as far as music selection, but there’s a bar area separate from the rest of the dining area if you’d like to have a few drinks and catch up on sports. Speaking of drinks, their house sangria is top notch!

This could have been a 5-star review, but it’s the EXTREME saltiness that is the disappointing thing. The only item not over-salted is the tortilla chips. Any dish with a sauce suffers because the salt overwhelms your tastebuds. Another problem is that any dish that is accompanied by hot tortillas suffers from having only 4 under-sized tortillas. They need to be bigger or more plentiful because they charge for any extras you ask for. To top off this underwhelming visit, my wife was disappointed that they do not serve hot tea.

(This review is for the new Mount Laurel Jose Tejas restaurant on Sat 02/11/23 @ 4:30pm.) I’ve been to the Iselin, NJ restaurant about 4 times and I’ve been to the Newark, DE restaurant once and they were both awesome. I noticed a couple of years ago that they dropped to a much smaller “Covid Menu” which a lot of restaurants and bars had been doing. It’s now mid-February 2023 and they are STILL on a small, stripped down menu which is super annoying. They literally have a one page menu. One side is drinks and appetizers and the other side has soups, salads and entrees. They don’t offer tacos, they don’t have any burgers, just fajitas, enchiladas and some baked burritos. One of my favorite entrées that I’ve had from JT is blackened catfish and it’s not on this small menu. I should start by saying that the service was fantastic. Everyone was very attentive and I had my water refilled three different times by three different people. It honestly never went empty. They brought me another glass of ice water every time it got down to about 1/3 full. The food also came out incredibly fast. I couldnt believe it. Tonight we ordered Queso Dip, a bowl of Gumbo, Steak Fajitas, a side of jambalaya and we enjoyed the house chips & salsa….. the chips & salsa were very good 5/5, the Queso Dip reminded me of Velveeta Cheese Product big time and tasted like cheddar broccoli soup so it was a 2/5, the bowl of Gumbo is one of my favorite things from there and I absolutely LOVED it. It’s sooo smokey and rich and a little spicy. It’s sooo good! It was an absolute 5/5. We both got Steak Fajitas and they only come with onions…. that’s it. Onions. No peppers, no scallions, no tomatoes, the skillet came out with strips of Steak and onions. That didn’t bother me too much but it was odd and different. The Steak and onions were also covered with spices that made it all pasty. There was so much seasoning on it that it was pasty. I thought they tasted OK but my GF said it was way too spicy hot and she didn’t eat any of it. She literally used the tortillas to eat the cheese, Pico de Gallo and rice. So the Steak Fajitas were a 2/5. The side plate of cheese, Pico de Gallo and shredded lettuce was great 5/5. I liked the black beans and Jose’s Rice but she did not. She thought that the black beans were too spicy (she’s a wimp). I’ll say the black beans and rice were both very good at 4/5. We both liked the side dish of Jambalaya which I thought was a great deal and lot of food for a low price. Jambalaya was 4/5. So we ended up bringing the great majority of our Fajitas home. I have high hopes that the next time I visit I’ll be happier with everything. Again, the service and speed at which we received our food was stellar but a few dishes were too spicy and lacking.

Average “Mexican” food. Options are limited. Burros come with choice of meats and cheese. For an additional charge of $2.50, you can get a cold plate with sour cream, Pico de Gallo, lettuce and cheese. Sides are beans and Mexican rice, beans and white rice, shoe string fries or blackened broccoli. Very limited kids menu with two choices, chicken fingers or quesadillas. We had to order full sized large burros for our two young kids who understandably, ate 1/2 their meal. The free chips and salsa are a plus though. My family’s meal came and the server asked if I was sharing with my kids. I said no, I ordered my own beef burro. She said she’d check with the cook and get it right out. 10 minutes later, my family is finished eating and getting take out containers. The server asked if we’d like the check. I said no, I want my dinner. Apologies again. 5 minutes later my meal finally arrived. The server asked if wanted it wrapped to go…no, I’m starving, I want to eat lol! More apologies and a second visit from the manager. I finished up and we received the check. My meal wasn’t even taken off the check. I went to find the manager and asked that he remove my meal for the trouble we went through. He did remove it at that point. I’m not sure if this place is worth a second try, especially if I can expect more of the same service.

First visit. Sat at the bar. The empanadas were good. The blackened chicken fajita was too spicy ️. Like the flavor but I will go with the grilled chicken next time. The frozen Margarita as delicious
