My last night in the city, I chose this restaurant as it was a block away from my hotel plus it caught my attention as I kept passing by it the past few days. It was fortunate that I was able to book a reservation online about half hr before my desired dinner time. I simply made the reservation on OpenTable and was seated right away as I attended to the host thou the restaurant was very busy.

We went to John‘s Grill for some drinks at the bar. The staff was so nice and the meals looked so delicious that we ordered an appetizer. It was wonderful! If we ever come back to SF, we‘ll eat there! Best wishes from Germany!

Wonderful historic restaurant in the heart of San Francisco! They are open for lunch and dinner only & take reservations (not required). Known widely for their steak and seafood entrees, but they offer a few other dishes as well. I tried the lamb chops which were mouth watering! Smaller restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. The servers are all wonderful and friendly.

The 1st round of bread was hard and hurt my teeth to tear thru it. The 2nd was at least warm BUT STILL HARD & TOUGH to eat, just on my jaw and on my teeth.

Little skeptical about the place but we didn’t have a reservation but the hostess put us up the 2nd floor area and we got right in without any issues. The food was ok. I didn’t see any salt and pepper on the tables but you can ask for them.

My wife and I had reservations for dinner, after spending the day walking around Union Square. I’d been to John’s Grill several times over the past couple of decades to have drinks, but I’d never dined there.

If you are looking for a good grill in Union Square to enjoy a delicious steak, this is without doubt your place! It is one of the latest restaurants that closes in the area so it is a plus. Some dishes are more than enough for one person so before ordering two plates ask the waiter for his recommendation.

We were shown to a table with a good view from the entrance. Perhaps it was a consideration for me to make it easier to identify my party who had not yet arrived. During our meal, we saw a white staff talking to his colleague, pointing at us and asking his colleague why he had us seated at a table visible from the entrance.
