First off, my family has been coming to Johnnys since 1972 – and long before that when I was a little girl. On this visit I give Johnny’s a 3 based only on the delicious cottage cheese appetizer and pleasant wait staff. Otherwise it would be a 1 for flavor and overall taste. I ordered the 6oz fillet cooked medium, which was overcooked and without flavor. It was barely 3/4” thick. It was more like a piece of sirloin. The vegetable side of broccoli, cauliflower and carrot was frozen and unflavored. Our waitress was very apologetic and comped my meal which was appreciated. The mushroom gravy was lumpy and pretty much disgusting. My husband had the fried shrimp – which was so-so It would be nice if it was butterflied. We were offered a complimentary dessert, but honestly after the tasteless meal, no thank you.

It is such a wonderful pleasure to come here for dinner when I come visit my hometown of Omaha. I come here not only for sentimental reasons but for their aged steaks that are THE BEST I’ve had anywhere . Everything about our dinner tonight was exceptional. Congratulations to the Kawa family for 100 years and wishing them all the best in the years to come. They have stood the test of time and it’s so nice to see Johnny’s Cafe is still going strong. My husband had the Porterhouse and I had the amazing New York Strip. Both were cooked perfectly to order. Their crisp onion rings have a lovely , light coating that melts in your mouth. The Cowboy Mashed potatoes were so flavorful, I found myself scraping the dish remnants out with a piece of steak! The Salted Chocolate Caramel Decadence dessert lived up to it’s name. Just the right size, with an “oh so delicious” rich cocoa taste that’s not super sweet like the best fudge you’ve ever had. Our server, Elizabeth, was attentive, friendly and had a wonderful attitude. We hope to see her again here on our next visit to Johnny’s .

Everyone working seemed really happy to be there. It was the kind of feeling you get when you go to a friends house for dinner. Food: really good. Steaks were delicious and cooked just the way they were requested. Definitely left full! The experience of being in a 100+ year old, basically historic place is just truly one to, uhh, experience. [Allow myself to introduce myself! 10pm s to anyone that knows that quote]

This restaurant is amazing. The front door is an incredible piece of art. Step into this grand space and soak-in the stained glass, and upscale ’70s decor with cozy booths, and arching columns/beams that look like T-bones! The waitress, Elizabeth, was delightful. And the food. OMG the food!!!! Every bite was incredible: the rolls, the spread, the house salad dressing, the strip steak, the cowboy mashed potatoes. I have been reliving that meal every day since we were there and will continue to until I can return and have another wonderful dining experience. So so good and family owned. Don’t miss it. Go out of your way. You will be glad you did.

There’s a reason why this establishment has been here so long. The prime rib is packed with flavor, and was perfect. Only reason for 4 stars is the sides are old school and they do fit. But they could be elevated a little ya know maybe some lobster Mac or charred Brussels just something besides potato choices, salad, soup. I would definitely pay an upcharge.

Good experience overall. Steak was a bit tough. Fat was pretty well gristle. Ordered med-rare, it was cooked properly, flavor of the steak was good. Also had the spinach artichoke dip which was phenomenal, and the beef barley soup was amazing. Cheesecake is homemade, and absolutely worth getting!

I’ll be honest: this is only the second time I have been to Johnny’s. To give you an idea of how long it has been since the first time, Google wasn’t even a company.
