We visited on a Tuesday evening around 630. When we arrived, we were seated promptly and our waitress was very bubbly and always helpful. She made sure we were taken care of without being overly present during our dining experience. We started out with their smoked wing special which was buy 10 and get 10 free for $18. I thought this was an excellent deal with the wings being less than a dollar each. I ordered a 32 ounce summer shandy for $11 and my friend got the strawberry lemonade. For our main meal, we split the family platter, $33ish, which came with half a rack of ribs, 2 other meats, which we chose the brisket and the burnt ends. Both the brisket and the burnt ends were a $2 upcharge each. It came with 4 sides and either corn muffins or Texas toast, which we chose the Texas toast. For sides, we got Mac and cheese(2), coleslaw, and waffle fries. The Texas toast was good though a bit cool rather than hot. The mac and cheese was pretty good and I really enjoyed the coleslaw with its vinegar and onions. The waffle fries were good though not very hot either. The brisket was decent, cooked very well but lacked much smoke flavor or seasoning. The burnt ends were hit or miss with one of mine being good and the other being very over cooked and hard to chew. The ribs were some of the worst ribs I have had, being luke warm, over cooked and super dry. I could barely even chew the top layer of meat as it was so over cooked and dry. It seemed like they had sat under a heat lamp for hours. Most of the meat lacked any real smoke flavor so I think they are smoking their meats high and hot for speed rather than low and slow for the smoke as that flavor is not getting infused into the meat very well. The sauces had decent flavor but so watered down that ran all over my plate and into all my other food. The sauces are nothing to write home about. I really like the other Jethro locations in the Des moines area so very disappointed in this one so far. Based on this one experience, I would be very hesitant to go back and order anything bbq related but will do since I try to give the benefit of the doubt and they possibly had a bad day. I would go back for the wings if they had their special again and may try other things on the menu. The waitress was super nice and definitely recommend her service, a highlight of the evening. The cost of our trip was pretty pricey, especially since most of the meats were mid to poor to very poor.

Just to be clear… the wings are smoked well, and the sauce was delicious. Staff was on point, great. I ordered Raspberry Habanero wings. The sauce was mostly in the takeout box, not on the wings. Confusion set in??? Maybe I should have asked for them to be dipped.

If you are looking for some great bbq, sides, and appetizers, you need to check this place out. The service was great and reasonably priced. The family meal fed the three of us and had enough to have another meal at home.

Wow… Just wow! The place definitely has an atmosphere for people of all ages. The food is surreal, portions are generous, and flavors are unmatched! I will be back a few more times while still in Iowa. Highly recommend Jethro’s.

I got the Jethro sandwich, definitely not as big as advertised. Definitely not worth the price. The jalapeno cream corn was awesome though. Will have to return to try other options.

I was really looking forward to Jethro’s and was sadly disappointed. The best part of our dining experience was our waiter Kyle/Karl (I know his name started with a ‘K’ but now I can’t remember). He was smiling, enthusiastic, attentive, and helped answer our beer questions: a true gem and the best part of our experience.

This Iowa chain barbecue restaurant and steakhouse provides a spacious and friendly dining experience. It offers a surprisingly good variety of craft beers as well as the usual mega brewers. I was there for barbecue rather than steak. I sampled the pulled pork, the beef brisket, and the burnt ends. All were delicious. I found the sides generally less appealing. My sweet potato fries were limp. The potato salad was soupy and overly sweet. The mac and cheese struck me as bland. The cornbread was good. The server was both friendly and attentive. I was there mid-afternoon, so restaurant was relatively uncrowded. Generally speaking, it was a very pleasurable dining experience.

I really don’t understand the rave reviews about this place. That was quite possibly the most mediocre BBQ I’ve ever had in my entire life, like the Taco Bell of BBQ. Had to wait several moments after walking in for the hostess to remember she had a job to do. She seemed really irritated when we asked to be seated in a booth rather than a table. Fortunately our waiter was super nice, unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired, especially for over 80$ worth of food for 3 people. Cheese squares were great, that was about all I can say positive wise. Sauces were all pretty bland and basic, coleslaw was awful, campfire baked beans could have doubled as chili, anything that was alleged to have been smoked barely had any smoke flavor to them. Needless to say this amateur pit boss and BBQ connoisseur/fanatic was really let down and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for real BBQ.

My husband and I ate there right about noon! We got a table right away. The hostess was welcoming. Our server, Carl, was so pleasant and attentive! He smiled and genuinely seemed to enjoy his job! I also watched him walk with an elderly lady slowly to get her on the right track for the bathroom! Aside from our server, the manager, hostess, and a couple of other staff asked how our food was and if we needed anything! Others engaged us in jokes as they walked past us! Everyone was so fricken nice! Best service we’ve had in a long time! The food was also amazing! Their garlic parmesean bone in wings are to die for! Thanks Jethro’s for a great dining experience!

Friendly staff. Food was decent. Beware ordering a margarita. Not sure what we got but definitely was not any margarita I’ve ever had. Almost undrinkable.
