Okay, this place is a LEGIT izakaya. I cannot believe I’ve discovered this joint just now. Every dish pretty much is delicious and well prepared. The yakidoris and other skewers are grilled fresh, and I would think the same for everything else. In general, the food is on the more “blander” side but they give you a healthy degree of sauces and dips. The seabass was heavenly and the potato croquet was crisped to perfection. Although we went for dinner, this place would definitely be more apt for a cold beer or sake with friends. And compared to the quality of the food, it was eerily “empty” on a Friday night. Perhaps we were there too early. Regardless, so happy that we discovered a gem in the peninsula.

3.5-4 stars. Ramen was good. We had shishitos appetizers that were really, really good! However, I think the Ramen needed a little less noodles and a bit more broth. The bathroom could also be a bit cleaner but overall, it was a good place. I’m sure I’ll return.

My daughter and I came here after she missed her flight. She was very depressed but the kindness and humility of the staff here completely cheered her up, in addition to the freshest, most flavorful vegan and vegetarian dishes one could ask for! We are so thankful to the cooks who made a special dish just for us, without us asking. I’m usually supremely picky about food but this place immediately one my heart.

Indoor dining 4/3/2021. This restaurant is not bad. Today I had the beef ramen $13, potato croquettes $5 and two pints of beer $10. The service was excellent with zero wait time at 11:30am. I was the only customer until around 12:15pm. It was as quiet as a library and I can eat my food in peace. That is a good thing. The potato croquettes tasted fresh with it came with a side of tonkatsu sauce. The beef ramen was only so-so and did not taste authentic Japanese. It lacked that flavorful broth that I’m used to. The baby bok choy over-powered the beef broth and tasted too much like vegetable soup. It made it uninspired and plain. The marinated soft boiled egg was cold. Inside, it was overcooked and the yolk was not jelly. Otherwise, the other items like the beef pieces and the ramen, were adequate. The good news is, there’s room for improvement and hopefully J Robata can improve. もっと頑張って!

This is a wonderful, brand new restaurant with a fantastic owner, who is extremely helpful and very friendly. The best thing that we ordered was the chicken cartilage and the ramen. It’s definitely worth checking out if you want good service and good comfort food.

Friendly service. Crispy chicken. Juicy hearts. Savory peppers. Flavorful corn. Great yuzu sauce on the pork belly. Tonkotsu ramen was mellow, garlicky, and unctuous. Spicy tonkotsu was more tasty because of the miso.

Tiny spot on the El Camino Real in Millbrae serves a small selection of ramen, Japanese curry rice and grilled meat. Very friendly staff and good food at reasonable prices. They are open for takeout during the pandemic.

I had the chicken tonkatsu ramen for takeout and it was delicious! What impressed me the most was the flavor of the broth, it was one of the best I’ve ever had. The chicken was crispy and the egg was flavorful with the yolk jelly on the inside. Looking forward to trying more from this spot.

Master of local Japanese food. Location is kind of hidden but a place you don’t want to miss. The owner/Head Chief is a nice person and introduced new dishes to you on every visit. Since I found and tried this place, and now I became a regular.
