It’s Italia opened in 1997 as a San Francisco style trattoria and pizzeria serving gourmet pizzas, house pastas, and creative salads, always with a California Italian flavor.Thirteen years later, having moved into the beautiful Half Moon Bay Inn on Main Street Half Moon Bay, our menu has expanded to include seafood and meat selections from our rotisserie and mesquite grill, artful pastas and award winning pizza, creative salads and antipasti, and an array of house desserts. Over the years we loved this place and had a tradition of making the long drive to savor dinner and spend the night in the charming adjacent hotel. We were so looking forward to another wonderful evening here. The food was great and the setting is beautiful. But, as can happen, poor service ruined a lovely experience. Our server took our order and was essentially done with us for the night. Their system uses food runners, and the kitchen is very efficient. Because of this, there was no one overseeing the flow of our meal. Splendid cocktails arrived well after the food did. The wonderful bottle of wine arrived only after my wife got up and tracked down our server—but by then we were halfway done with dinner, and the wine had no time to open up before we were finished. With every course we had to find a runner or a bus person to bring serving plates, utensils, pepper and fresh cheese, or to remove spent dishes. Our server seemed oblivious and unaware, and it made for a really disjointed and disappointing evening. It’s Italia has a policy of automatically adding an 18% gratuity, and perhaps that’s a disincentive for their service staff to provide service, but who knows. It will be a long time before we return, if ever. And that’s a shame—it was a lovely tradition. Ciao, It’s Italia….

This was one of the only places open after 8 pm on Tuesday night, and what a surprise! Typically, I do not love Italian food, so I had the steak and subbed the mushrooms for spinach. Already came with swiss chard, so I had a pile of greens on my plate, which was great! Steak had a beautiful char and was seasoned and cooked to perfection. So good that I found myself gnawing on the bone at the end of the meal.

This place is delicious! I especially loved the truffle gnocchi! We went during the Pumpkin Festival and still only waited about 15 mins to sit in a lovely spot next to the fireplace on the back patio. While our waiter was very nice, he was not on top of making sure we had what we needed. Luckily, the woman bussing the tables was super helpful and helped us a few times throughout our meal. I would definitely go back here! The food was THAT good.

This is one of a very cozy eateries in Half Moon Bay. Come early and enjoy the patio dining in the back of the restaurant. Food is great and staff are very accommodating as well. I would definitely come back again. Don’t forget to try the grilled octopus in the appetizer menu. It’s one of the very best that I have ever tried. If you love pizza, you are in the right place. All pizzas can be ordered as thin or thick crust. I normally don’t really care for thick crust but highly recommended here.

In Half Moon Bay for our anniversary and in the recommendation of locals we went to it’s Italia. We ordered drinks, a wedge salad and bruschetta to start. All were delicious. My husband ordered artichoke ravioli and on an explanation from our waiter, I ordered short rib over polenta instead of the rib/pasta entree on the menu. The artichoke sauce was tasty but the ravioli were thick and tough. I took 2 bites of my entree and thought it tasted salty. Decided to take it home for another meal. The following day I heated up the short rib and ended up throwing it away!!! It was even saltier than the night before.
