The most authentic Japanese restaurant. I love their food here. The place gets full fast because it’s not big and sometimes service can be slow but it really is worth the wait. The staff is very nice. I’ve been going here for years and I always end up getting the tempura.

The food and service were fantastic. With that mentioned, I’m not sure we would go back. The sink at the sushi bar was foul. Black mildew growing on the back wall and the area around it. The lock on the bathroom door was also broken. It’s not a big deal, but it could lead to someone being embarrassed. I’m giving it a 3 star rating because the food and service were top-notch. As a small family owned restaurant, I know it’s been hard for the last 3 years. But truly, if it was important, they could have taken the time to put a staneless steal back drop on the sink. Hopefully, they will install a stateless steal backdrop or equivalent. But I also wonder about the area we can’t see.

Definitely one of the better Japanese food experiences I’ve had here in the Portland area. The fish quality for the sushi was very good and one of the better we’ve found up here. All the other food that came in our bento boxes was great.

Very tasty sushi rolls, they made rice right; texture is good and flavors of stuffing inside out distinctly. Fried chicken (karaa ge) and tofu (Agedofu) are pretty authentic.

Greeted on entry, received the last table as the place was full! Midweek lunch. Seats about 40. Pretty large menu, maybe too much, but read about their bento and ordered the sashimi bento. Miso and mixed lettuce salad served first. Miso is such a great beginning such a comfort food. Citrus dressing on salad was good, scratch made nearly positive, yuzu maybe? Bento had a cucumber salad (with shrimp) and assorted tempura veggies, sashimi selection – excellent cuts very good, a truly good ‘california’ roll, two slides pickled daikon. Also a bowl of rice. Will definitely return but will have a hard time not ordering the same thing. The store front is nothing special, so not an easy place to discover!

It has been years since we returned and was ready to reevaluate the restaurant. I like my Oyako don but my husband was not having the same experience. He found fish bone in his sushi sampler and also the teacup has a lipstick mark on it. So we concluded that we likely won’t return for awhile.
