Portion size has went down, prices have went up, and instead of serving food on plates like they used to now it is in cheap baskets. Menu items have changed. This is not the diner I went to as a kid anymore. I would be willing to pay the higher prices for the way the food used to be served but now it seems more like a novelty than Burlington’s local diner. I used to be a frequent customer but now I’m exploring other options for lunch. If it isn’t broken why fix it?

Great food at outstanding prices! Hours are a little wonky, but you won’t be disappointed in the food or your bill! (Edit prices have gone up significantly as of February 2023)

The food wasn’t too bad and the service wasn’t bad until the shift change. The younger waitress was rude and it was noticeable to my stepdad. We wanted to sit down and have a decent conversation before I returned home. Unfortunately, the young lady who came on duty was not someone I would have hired if I were concerned about quality.

Was searching for a new place to take the family for a non-franchised meal off the beaten path. We hit jackpot with Hungry Bear.

Got the large tenderloin platter, w/ fries and applesauce. Tenderloin 4/10, fries 8/10, applesauce 10/10. Our waitress was great, no complaints. The tenderloin was okay sized but was around 1/8th inch in thickness. The breading around the edges had no meat at all in it, was just breading for about a quarter inch inwards. For paying extra for a platter, there was barely any fries. The apple sauce came in a small sauce dish wich was fine. The diner was very cold which made it uncomfortable to sit in. A group of older gals also stated how cold it was in there. The place is cash only, which can be a con. The wife got a breakfast platter. Which was a bit overpriced, but she said was great and she left feeling full. Overall the hungry bear gets a 6/10 as it left me feeling like a hungry bear, and 20 dollars shorter.

Food was delicious as ever, service was good. The only reason I gave it a lower score for atmosphere is because there was a VERY loud man in there screaming inappropriate and weird things while me and my parents were trying to enjoy our meal. The Hungry Bear never disappoints with the food though, absolutely delicious!!

We used to dine here quite a bit in the past, unfortunately it has gone downhill since then. The food is okay, not really worth waiting 22 minutes for 2 omelettes and the appetizer but tasty none the less. My husband ordered the Mess with gravy and I got a ham and cheese omelette. Depressingly, the only cheese was a slice of kraft on top. We got charged for refills even though we didn’t ask for refills. $22 for 2 people isn’t a bad price. The service could be way better. We weren’t even greeted by the waitress, couldn’t tell you her name, she didn’t give one or have a name tag on. We were there for 45 minutes and she never asked how our food was or offered boxes. Just slapped our check down and went out to smoke. Even the food couldn’t make up for her bad service.
