Home town food with some twists adding some awesome flavors to the menu, basils, dill, Havarti cheeses. etc. l Liked the atmosphere, liked the service. I was super happy with the food. Organics and whole wwheatare the norm, . . .slight price increase but well worth it. I’m pretty much guessing you won’t see a Sysco truck out back dropping bland canned goods. . . I mean I’m watching a chef walk around talking to some guests. . . This doesn’t appear (or taste) like some high school kids in the back flipping food, there’s thought and a great presentation on your plate.

Stopped in last Saturday afternoon and was greeted warmly, and seated quickly. Our server was quite friendly and engaging, and was very knowledgeable about the menu and the food being served.

Reasonable prices, generous portions. Wonderful heart felt culinary effort. Great breakfast menu and strong comfort food selections with a farm-to-table commitment. Our family loves downtown Oregon and we feel strongly the Holstein Kitchen is a place worth supporting! Looking forward to your future bar installation and the addition of your recent liquor license.

I’ve been to Holstein Kitchen three times and I plan to go back many more. From the moment you walk in you’re made to feel comfortable. The hosts are professional, welcoming, and had us seated quickly. The server was cordial and did a great job. We never felt like we were waiting or neglected. I’ve had a different dish on each visit and have yet to find anything that wasn’t delicious. I feel the portions were ample and the price was appropriate for obvious “farm-fresh” quality. Holstein Kitchen is the place to go if you want the best meal in Oregon, maybe even in the Madison area…thats right, I said it.

Nearly flawless. We’ve visited the Holstein several times for breakfast and have always been impressed. The service is prompt, friendly and attentive. The food is outstanding and portion sizes are just right. You’ll leave the Holstein feeling neither hungry nor gluttonous. The menu is disciplined, limiting its scope to those things that can be done very well with a few simple, fresh ingredients. Flavors are unique and robust without being too far afield from traditional diner fare. My lone criticism, and it’s a small one, is the music played in the dining room. The content is fine, with an eclectic mix of American folk rock, but the volume was a bit high to carry on a conversation. Beyond this minute concern I am unable to find anything less than stellar to say about the Holstein.

I called Chef Scott a few weeks before my wedding to see if he would consider hosting our group of 12 to 16 people. As we discussed the potential event and arrival after our ceremony I found out that it was prior to the Holstein Kitchen’s normal hours. Chef Scott offered to open early for drinks and appetizers, serve a cake we purchased elsewhere and was extremely accommodating. On our wedding day he greeted our guests and made them comfortable, served amazing appetizers on the house. The wait staff was courteous and attentive. The food is excellent. Every person in our party has commented to me on how great the experience was and how good the food was. We cannot be happier with our choice to have Chef Scott host our reception. Thank you for everything!!

April was our amazing waitress and our food was some of the best I’ve ever had! My father said It right…”he’s not a cook, he’s a chef”.

My Fiance and I contacted Chef Scott about taking on our wedding reception with 15 guests. They opened early for us, served drinks to the guests and provided appetizers on the house. The General Tsao’s cheese curds are amazing! The staff was very friendly, helpful, and prompt. Just like always. The food was great. If you haven’t tried the Holstein Honey-Pecan Chicken, you really MUST! The staff served our wedding cake, but I want to mention that it was our choice to bring our own. Chef Scott offered to handle that aspect as well! They all did a great job and made our wedding reception feel special. Chef Scott came out and welcomed our guests and even gave us a gift! The Holstein far exceeded our expectations. Their offer was more than fair for our gathering, and the food was terrific. We couldn’t be happier with our choice. Thank you to all of you for your wonderful contribution to our big day!

So I’m writing this in hopes of things getting better. I live out in a very small town and driving to Madison for a good meal can be tedious. I was excited for a restaurant closer to home.

The place is a far cry from what it was only a couple years ago. The menu has changed, the food was fantastic, and the atmosphere welcoming and bright. I really like how the front windows have been partly frosted so you can see out if you seated at the window, but people can’t see your table and food. The server was very kind and happy to joke round. I highly recommend the cheesey biscuits and gravy for brunch. The fries are DIVINE because they use truffle oil. The prices are a little higher, but well worth it IMHO. I do believe they source ingredients as close to home as possible.
