The Hilltop was 74 years old in July 2022! Hilltop was built in 1948 by Violet Mercer Anderson. The original menu had only three meat choices-ham, fried chicken, and steak. Linen tablecloths and glass water goblets were used. The waitstaff wore long white dresses and white dress shirts with bow ties. Many proms and special events were held at HT in the 1950’s. Over the years it has been owned by several husband and wife teams, and is now owned by Dennis and Chris Grubb. They have expanded the menu and cook the old school way.

We ate there twice. They take reservations and I recommend it on the first Friday of the month. That is prime rib night. Unfortunately they didn’t get their delivery so I did the ribeye and shrimp. It was good but steak needed more seasoning. I like their sides. So much food I didn’t have room for desert.

Came here a few months ago and had the most delicious meal. Basic $4 cheeseburger was big and juicy. Big order of onion rings. We had a great lunch and couldn’t wait to come back.

Found this place after I visited Cataract Falls. This place is a monthly tradition now. Great quality home cooked meals. You get generous portions and feel right at home. I appreciate how the servers always remember us and food quality stays consistent. Pretty view from the porch or windows. Nice to watch the birds while you wait for your food. It is family style so you get big sides served to share then pick your main entree. Always a great experience! Always telling friends and family.

Heard this was a nice place.. that’s a understatement! It is absolutely amazing relaxing and beautiful! The staff were so friendly and prompt! Food was perfect! Sevice was wonderful and food was delicious and perfect. Reasonable prices and such nice music.. wish there was a dance floor. I see why you need to make reservations but luckily we went at a time they weren’t busy. Everything was fresh and homemade. If your family had good dinners you won’t be disappointed because it’s like going back to Grandmas good cooking! I wish I’d of taken pictures of our delicious food. Sorry but I guarantee you will not be disappointed. My husband is absolutely the best!

I worked here in the late 90’s and ate there again after all these years. Though ownership has changed hands, the food, service, and setting is the same of not better. You’ll get more did than you can eat. Their signature ribeye is outstanding and the fried chicken is terrific. You really can’t go wrong. The setting is scenic and relaxing. This truly is a treasure of Owen County and a highlight of Spencer!
