I did the drive from Dallas to Jacksboro just for these burgers. I watch the burger show and this was one of the restaurants they went to. The wait was a little long but what else can you expect from such an iconic burger restaurant. I loved the classic atmosphere, the writing on the wall, it was truly an experience. I had the double double and it’s everything you would expect it to be and some from such a classic, no frills burger. The toppings were fresh and the cheese was melted perfectly on the beef patty. The beef had those little crunchy bits on the end of it and that’s something i absolutely adored about it.

IMO, this is the best burger in TX. I have been eating Herd burgers my entire life. Any visit to see my grandparents or aunt was always accompanied with a burger. My Granny Slate even had one for her 100th birthday! I no longer have any family in Jacksboro, but I still make the drive from FW a few times a year to have a burger and enjoy the atmosphere of a small town institution that serves up a great burger, great service and a unique setting for family/friends to gather together.

Got a double cheeseburger with bacon, and it was perfect. A little greasy, cheesy, and great flavor on the meat. Cash only, parking is…interesting, but it was nice to sit outside at a table and watch the birds while I wolfed the burger down.

This is the best little burger in Texas in my opinion! It’s just a little “hole in the wall” but people come from all over to eat these burgers. Stop in and grab one or two, you won’t regret it!

Stopped by for the first lime last Thursday and was pleasantly surprised. The burgers were delicious and the prices were decent. The inside is very small, but it was not busy when I stopped by. I drove past on Saturday and the parking lot was packed. This was the first burger place that I have been too that was featured on the Texas bucket list. It is worth a visit.

I’ve been to Herd’s many times and enjoy it every time. The burgers and toppings are fresh and the buns are always nicely toasted. If you’re looking for a nice sit down place, Herd’s is not for you. If you enjoy a meal in a piece of roadside history, and don’t mind a quirky atmosphere, you will live Herd’s. There is picnic table seating in the shade outside, and inside there are some old fashioned tablet arm school desk type seats where you can spend time reading the graffiti-covered walls. Drinks are retrieved from a chest cooler with a sliding top and there’s an array of chips in a clip holder on the wall. Herd’s is not fancy, but it is just the kind of place where I like to eat and I hope you will like it too!

An absolute gem. So out of the ordinary. No inside dining. No fries or onion rings or shakes. No credit or debit cards accepted. No plates even. Just AMAZING burgers. The kind of burger that transports you back to an earlier era of burgerdom before all the pomp and circumstance. I had a double bacon cheeseburger and it was one of the very best I’ve ever had. The bun was incredible – soft, warm, perfection. The patty’s were handcrafted excellence. I’ll definitely be back for more!

First time today, and I was happy this was on my bucket list of places to check out. The double cheese burger was delicious. The burger looks better than any of these pictures. I’ll definitely be taking some road trips back.

We made a point to stop here on a road trip and I regret that. The burger was just ok, and you’d expect it to be great since that’s literally all they serve. They don’t serve fries, only snack size chip bags if you’re looking for a side. No fountain drinks just bottles and cans. Which might be okay if they offered seating but they only have 2 or 3 outdoor tables. So if it’s summertime in Texas and you’re on a road trip, you’re likely stuck eating in your vehicle. The staff seemed to hate life and barely notice customers existed, despite the cramped, old building being so full of customers that we had to wait outside for our food. In reading about this place, I was looking forward to supporting a long history of family business making great burgers in their historic home. That is not what you’re getting. You’re getting a mediocre burger in a rundown house, poor customer service, and no where to sit and eat, making for an inconvenient pitstop. This may be a burger for locals that can take it home to eat, but I certainly can’t recommend it for a road trip.
