If you are looking for a quiet romantic place to have dinner, this is not the place. The acoustics are not good, and the tables are way to close together. I had to ask the person at the table next to me to get up and let me pass by so I could set down. Our table for 4 was more like table for 12, since we could hear everything said at the tables next to us.

BEST FRENCH FRIES EVER. Not playing around. I’m not sure what they do to them. Good in general 10+. Bartenders are artists, every cocktail we ordered was lovingly crafted. When I travel I never go to the same place twice, Hemingways was my exception to the rule

We were very disappointed with our dining experience at the Hemingway. The first clue was the hostess said she did not have enough menus to give us even one to look over. And the restaurant had 8 empty tables. We wanted to order 3 different kinds of red wine. They were out of two of them. The waiter gave us a poor excuse for the reason. Then sent the manager over. He did offer us the only wine he had by the glass. It was $35 for the glass and not great. We choose a bottle of Cabernet for $60. My husband ordered a Manhattan cocktail. He did not ask for anything specific. It was a short pour and in a martini glass. We were charged extra for the “up” pour. Which he did not ask for. Then we waited over 45 minutes for a Tomahawk steak which our waiter told us they also ran out of and the chef had to take out a frozen one to cook for us. A good reputable steakhouse does not use frozen meat. The steak turned out to be cooked correctly but not much flavor and with a lot of fat. We did agree that the steak fries were very good. But the steak sauces lacked flavor. It was very obvious to us that the entire staff was not of the caliber that a great steakhouse should have. The manager was well aware of our displeasure and did NOTHING to rectify the situation. For a $300 dinner it was more than disappointing and worthy of this poor review. We hope they choose to take this review to heart and improve their service and food.

This was by far and above the best meal I’ve ever eaten. I’m in my 60’s, so this says a mouthful. I had the summer salad which was so fresh and tasty. I also ordered the portobello steak and it was incredible. Service was friendly, attentive, and professional. The restaurant is so beautiful! I am excited to return again.

One word really summarizes the experience there – CLASSY. It’s a great atmosphere (really nice decor), the staff is incredible – fantastic customer service (Danny, Spencer, and the wait staff). Spencer provided excellent recommendations for wine and dessert wine. Of course, the food was also ridiculously good (this is not barbecue, it’s a real damn steak house!). It’s awesome that Paso finally has an approachable upscale dining experience. We look forward to coming back.

Food was nothing special particularly for the price point and also arrived warm bordering cool. Had to ask Lauren, our server, for bread after our meal was already served. Garlic mashed potatoes lacked flavor and the bourbon sauce on my pork chop tasted premade. My companions steak also lacked flavor and was overcooked.

Wonderful dinner at our newest place to be in downtown Paso Robles. We were greeted with a smile and immediately seated. Beautiful decorated dinning room with a lot of attention to detail. Classy black with gold trim is the theme, black and white photos of Mr. Hemingway’s adventures hung throughout, eye catching fully stocked traditional floor to ceiling bar is the main feature of the room. Ribeye streak cooked medium rare melts in your mouth. Parmesan encrusted Caesar salad is a must. Wine lockers available with excellent rates. I think Mr. Hemingway would very much enjoy dinning here. I look forward to my next visit!

Lovely friends in Paso invited me to soft opening of Hemingway’s Steak House. I am a fortunate soul. Sat at bar. Started with an Old Fashioned. Service was extraordinary. For food starters, we had shrimp cocktail, lamb lollipops and calamari. All great. The house made cocktail sauce for the shrimp was spectacular. Among us we had ribeye and NY steak. Cooked to perfection. Our sides included corn succotash, spinach, garlic mash potatoes and asparagus spears. I was partial to the potatoes and asparagus. This place has a bright future in Paso Robles. Good ambiance. Good staff. Great location downtown.

After an afternoon of drinking reds, I was in the mood for a high quality steak. I was so excited we got lucky and was able to get last minute reservation. However, the experience did not live up to the hype from the reviews. Firstly, do not expect a romantic dinner there. You almost have to speak with a soft yell to hear each other. It’s soooo very loud, even the wait staff apologized many times as it is hard to hear and they had to ask for us to repeat what we were saying. The steaks were mediocre at best, the appetizers were good, nothing spectacular. The biggest offense was the popovers. If I was running the line, I would NEVER have let those leave my kitchen. As soon as they came out, I told the table they don’t look right (see pic). They were super dense. Popovers should be light and airy, not dense and chewy like mochi. Almost as as bad as the popovers was the creamed spinach, id change the the discription to ” room tempertaure heavy cream with spinach”. For the price point, this restaurant should be on point. Given its a new restaurant, I can forgive 1, maybe 2 dishes being meh, but 3 dishes being meh and 1 downright offensive is just a no-no. Frankly, I would have enjoyed a meal at Outback or Texasroadhouse much more. Having said that, our server was a champ and the drinks were good. I’ll stop in once more in a couple of months, maybe they will get the kinks worked out. Long story short, we all left feeling disappointed. P.S., to the kitchen, I recommend focusing on better plating on your higher price point item such as the lobster before your creme brulee, I mean at least you slapped on a bit of gold on the brulee to make it look nice.
