Got into Heavy’s pretty late one weekday, like 30min before they close. They were courteous and attentive regardless of the stunt we pulled.

I will start by saying my parents loved the bbq so much, they came two Saturday’s in a row! A great bbq spot in Hondo, not too far when in the San Antonio area and will say, worth the drive. The brisket is very juicy and tender, ribs are delicious, as well as the chicken and sausage. The sides are good as well and I would say the amount of food given is worth the price. Would advise going at a decent time as there can be a line. Will definitely be back.

I came here for the first time since I was in Hondo visiting a job site. Traditional Texas BBQ joint with wood tables and chairs and a covered porch if you want to eat outside.

Great friendly staff. Felt at home when we walked in. Arrived just prior to closing time so they only had brisket and sausage. Brisket was fork tender with great smoke flavor. Not over powering like some other places I’ve had. Sausage was delicious. Fire success we had pinto beans and they were very good. Potato salad was good as well. Next time I’ll be showing up early to try the ribs, chicken, and turkey.

I enjoyed the atmosphere and the workers were nice. It’s just the food was not on point for me.

Made a day trip to Hondo and the choice for lunch was between Bill Miller’s and Heavy’s.

So glad we stopped for lunch here on our way back from Garner state park. Met the prison work release lady, she was super friendly . Food was delicious, big portions and priced just right . Brisket was super moist and the potato salad was good! Chicken and pork ribs were perfectly cooked. We will definitely stop by again!

The guy greeting and tending to customers was great and very welcoming. The lady next to him must have been apart of a prisoner work release program and hates her life. She had zero personality and didn’t want to be there. Brisket was good! Sausage was good, corn was just corn, and the potato salad was warm and dry which was a bit strange ti palate. Overall good dining experience.

I dig this BBQ joint. I was so excited when they moved n and fired the pits back up…and even more excited when I tried their brisket! It’s my favorite of their meats, and the ribs are a close second…very lean and little fat on the bone. The potato salad here is one of my favorites in the state. It is very simple, and that’s just fine. Their sauce is tasty, but honestly u can enjoy the meats w o it…we love to dip the old school white bread n it. Their brisket is on my Texas top 25 list…love it!

I’ve been here twice. Both times the BBQ was mediocre. Definitely doesn’t live up to its Texas monthly hype. The brisket was dry. Sides were pretty good. I’ll try again in the future and will update review.
