Since 1967 the arguments ebbed & flowed, and eventually everyone just moved on to drinking and laughing together.
The quintessential American dive bar. The next chapter was a ground up 15 month renovation under new owners in 2013.
More than forty-five years later, we honor the tradition of the original ethos and, even late at night, dive to that legacy. Yet we think that the Hawk is ready to move on from ’67… make our own mark… honor the past…make it ours.
The menu looks to our heritage, and celebrates it with real food. Our food comes from farms and ranches that do it old school, like Mother Nature intended.
Farm-fresh, upscale pub grub, plus brews & wine turned out in spacious, industrial-chic surrounds. Based on 978 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.2 stars. Price $$

Second time visiting DC, there aren’t a lot of restaurants in the mall area, so we’ve ended up here both times. We’re very happy with the drinks, food, and service. My family of five ate here today and we all cleared our plates, everyone was very happy with their food. Two cocktails were great too! Fun music and atmosphere. They offer a military discount. Recommend!

A nice pub and grill just off the tourist beat of the Capitol. Friendly, prompt service. Good salads, sandwiches and burgers.

Took my boyfriend here and was surprised by how affordable the prices for food and drink were (in comparison to the rest of DC). We visited on a Friday night while Congress was in recess so it was quiet, quick, and romantic. The food was great and definitely would visit again!

This spot has a lot of character. I was here for a work dinner with a group of people so we had a prix menu. Very limited. The food was bland. The regular food outside our section did look much more colorful and tasty so hopefully it tastes better but I would not recommend it for a group outing. The server was not helpful at all. I asked what the chicken was stuffed with. His reply was “stuffing”. It ended up being stuffed with mushrooms and prosciutto which was fine but the staff should definitely be more informed, especially when assigned to a group with such a limited menu. The chowder was the best part.

We stopped here for a late dinner and were impressed. Jose was our server and he was super personable and gave us great service! I had the grassroots burger and fried pickles and it hit the spot. My boyfriend got the Fried Green Tomato BLT and said it was great. The best part though was the fries! Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a hearty lunch or dinner and ask for Jose!
