In late 2008 the concept for Half Shell Oyster House was born in the mind of company president Bob Taylor and polished off later with his partners Rob Heffner, Kevin Fish and Brian Raspberry.
The concept was to provide a phenomenal dining experience with a menu that highlighted Southern cuisine with a New Orleans flair. The atmosphere offers a relaxed yet classic vibe reminiscent of the French Quarter. The interior subtly showcases exposed brick, wrought iron railing, stained glass, and antique doors. The design is complimented by the sound of jazz that weaves through the air. Today we have multiple locations in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.

We stopped at another location last year and had such great food and service. It was a beautiful evening so we decided to sit outside. We arrived at 6 p.m. We were served a drink and an appetizer fairly quickly. We finished our drinks and our appetizer and no one came to check on us. My husband had to go in the restaurant to get someone to come and take our food order. It turns out the bartender was also our waiter. I don’t know what the other wait staff was doing as they seemed to be able to bring things out but not take an order or do anything else. The four stars are for the food, not the service.

Met some friends at the Spanish Fort location because they said the food was great, The were correct and the service was out standing. I had grilled red snapper that was as good as I have eaten. My wife had the shrimp and grits that she rated the best she had eaten. We were there at lunch and they had a good crowd. It is definitely a upper class restaurant moderately priced. They do have a very good selection of lunch specials. Definitely a place we will return too.

I’m an oyster lover, and these were some of the best oysters I’ve ever had! We chose natural, Rockefeller and grilled. Plump and salty with so much flavor! Our server was an absolute delight, the drinks, strawberry mojito – try it, you’ll love it – were fabulous, and the restaurant was casually elegant. I would highly recommend this great restaurant.
