I travel a lot for work. I have been in hundreds of cities, hundreds of restaurants and never experienced the embarrassing situation I experienced at goldenrod cafe in Hastings Nebraska. My friend and I decided to try this restaurant at the suggestion of a local friend. We walked in were told to sit wherever we liked. We chose a table in the corner away from everyone. My back was to everyone. My friend was facing me. The waitress was very prompt and efficient. She got our coffee, then took our orders. The food arrived promptly. It looked great. We were trying to get a few things and waved our waitress down. Before we could say anything I was told that I was inappropriately dressed. It’s 83 degrees outside. I had on a black dress that was knee length. I do show a little cleavage but since when is that grounds for making anyone feel unwelcome. She is rude. Given the circumstances that she didn’t say anything until the food was at my table that we had not touched btw. She told me we had to pay for it anyway. I will never eat at that establishment. I boxed my food up and paid leaving my amazing waitress a $10 tip. She was the best part of the experience. I ordered two eggs scrambled with cheese (they didn’t put cheese in my eggs) steak medium well (steak was bloody) sour dough toast (burnt toast) my friend ordered two eggs over medium, sour dough toast (burnt as well) blueberry stuffed French toast (received regular French toast) ham (which wasn’t cooked) now because we had to box the food to go before we could try our food we didn’t notice the mistakes til we arrived at our hotel and got to actually sit down and eat. Worst experience ever

My wife likes this place. Stopped in here a couple of times because of the truckstop parking. However the locals don’t leave many spaces for parking. This is a very busy place because of the prices are reasonable. Nice people here, with Christian music. Food is okay too.

Great food and excellent service. The staff is friendly and personable; and the cook makes perfect over medium eggs. This is not always the case with places I order breakfast, but they do it every time here. Makes me so happy .

Hash browns were great. Over medium eggs were mucus-ey. Very inexpensive. They need to attract a younger crowd.

My meal was an Italian omelet with cubed potatoes and a side of coffee cake. A lot of food for a small price. Definitely would recommend. I got a peekaboo which was an over medium egg inside my omelet. Yum!

I really enjoyed my meal at the Goldenrod Cafe on the east edge of town in Hastings, NE. It was recommended to me by one of my excellent high school students who works there (I’m a well-respected substitute teacher for HPS) and what impressed me the most was how affordable and low they’ve managed to keep their prices even after our recent inflation spikes in the economy AND the portion sizes for their breakfast items seemed generous/above-average. The only thing I would mention to anyone wanting to try them out for the first time is to bring plenty of cash or a check, as they do not currently take debit/credit cards, but for the value, quality, and portion sizes, it’s totally worth it!
