Geno’s Steaks Menu – Philadelphia, PA

Type : Cheesesteak restaurant

Location : Philadelphia, PA

The place with the BEST Cheesesteak in Philly, Geno’s was founded by one of Philly’s own, Joey Vento in 1966. The man had two boxes of steaks, a few hot dogs, and $6 in his pocket when he turned on the grills at 9th and Passyunk. Neighboring joints predicted he’d last six months, tops. Little by little the shop at 9th and Passyunk drew more attention. Before long, people were saying they were the best steaks they’ve ever had. Joey kept at it. Business was booming in 1971 when Joey and his wife Eileen had a baby boy. Always one to do things his own way, Joey decided to name his son Geno. Joey passed away in 2011. Geno has since taken over the shop and is carrying on Joey’s legacy by serving up the famous Philly cheesesteak.

Patrons line up 24/7 for the cheesesteak sandwiches served up at this no-frills landmark. Based on 13 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.0 stars. Price $$

I hate to say it but it’s better than Pats. They make everything fresh and they actually have a vegetarian steak option. Overall an enjoyable experience. It gives you want you want from a steak. It’s open 24 hours. It’s sparkling clean. Say what you want about other places having the best cheesesteaks in Philly, those places all close at 6:30pm. This place gives you the goods when you really want it — after a night of drinking!

Geno’s is a staple to the meaning of Philly cheesesteaks! You can say I’m biased or whatever. But I’ve tried most of the competitors and Geno’s is hands down one of the best I’ve had! 2 hour drive is worth it and as you can see my pictures are from multiple different times I’ve been there! Great service all the time even if it’s busy always moves along.

Seriously, the best cheese steak I’ve ever had. Great place and great service. Parking is interesting you better be good at parallel parking on narrow Philadelphia streets. **IMPORTANT INFO** Geno’s is CASH ONLY, THEY DO NOT TAKE ANY CREDIT OR DEBIT CARDS! You’ll thank me later,

Very ordinary. Not horrible. But not worthy of being famous. We were expecting more flavor. And there was barely any cheese on any of our sandwiches. I’ll admit we’re not from the area, and it was our first time there, so maybe we missed some details on how to order. Regardless, it wasn’t good enough for us to make a trip back…..

Geno’s, practically right next door to Pat’s, basically the same prices. We gave it a shot, and. Well, I won’t lie to you, it was pretty good. It was good enough that we tried it three times. However, I didn’t like that we got charged to add extra items that didn’t get added. First time, sure, that’s an accident, but when it’s happened 3 times, it feels a little bit deliberate, like they just want to sneak that couple of dollars from you. Why not, right, it’s just a couple bucks for additional toppings or whatever. I’m not into it so much. We will make better choices next time.

Liked Geno’s better than Pat’s! Geno’s has better bread that is a soft roll which is more moist and easier to eat. However, Geno’s steak is sliced as opposed to chopped so that is a key difference from Pat’s. We got a sandwich “wit out, whiz”: meaning, without onions and with cheese whiz. I would definitely recommend getting your cheesesteak with cheese whiz as opposed to provolone. It just gives more cheese flavor to the sandwich overall. Geno’s is also the more colorful, more appealing establishment at the intersection. Also, think Geno’s is the better place to sit and eat your meal. Cash only. About the same prices as Pat’s. Not cheap
