Cute little NJ Diner in the middle of the airport with perfect diner decor and atmosphere. Typical diner menu for decent prices and they offer dine in or take out. The take out window server was great and I was all excited to give 5 stars until I sat down at my terminal and opened my to go container. The sandwich was super whimpy with barely any turkey or cheese and it was missing the chipotle dressing completely. The sourdough bread was tasty but extremely hard to the point of breaking a tooth. The bacon was also tasty but there was barely any of it. I wouldn’t mind paying $20 for this if it wasn’t a $5 sandwich. My friend got a Greek salad and had no complaints.

Food, music, and atmosphere was awesome. However, the service was less than 1 star. Waitress just couldn’t seem to get right. She kept forgetting things we asked for. Also, I watched her take a tissue out of her pocket, blow her nose, put it back in the pocket, and never clean her hands. I told the manager. As he knew I was watching them, he put gloves on but then touched a tablet and 50 billion paper orders everyone else had touched after. *Sigh* Anyone serving open food should have on gloves and change them often-that was my suggestion. I wouldnt be surprised if people get sick a lot leaving this place. Hygiene is terrible.

We stopped to eat here for a layover. The food was good but not particularly above another Americana dinner. The atmosphere was on point for a 50s malt shop. The only thing that broke it for me was the airport travelers and announcements so it was understandable, with a high price tag. The Service was awsome! We had a very cheerful gentleman who got to know us and shared his story. They were truly a delight to meet.

UPDATE: got in touch with the owner of the store about a surcharge on my credit card & explained the situation to him, he was very kind, gave me a full refund & apologized for the experience I had at the restaurant. Bumped up the score to 4 stars because of this action. I’ll give Garden State Diner another try when the time suits me if I visit the Newark airport again.

I had a very simple breakfast…pancakes. They were perfect! I had ordered a side sausage which wasn’t my favorite. The style of the sausage was ok…. I thing special. Wouldn’t recommend getting it on its own.
