Fat Spoon Cafe Menu – Covington, LA

Type : Restaurant

Location : Covington, LA

The whole idea of the Fat Spoon Cafe’ concept is to do things a little differently than many others in the café business. Our food and atmosphere is unique, but familiar to Southern Louisiana. We pride ourselves on using homemade ingredients like corned beef and roast pork which form the basis of our signature spins on the Reuben and Cuban sandwiches as well as a Cochon de Lait po-boy.

Based on 420 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.5 stars. Price $$

Okay food, nothing fancy or special but edible. I had the Big Cheesy Omelet which came with a damn slice of cheese melted on top of the omelet. Even I use grated cheese at home…just lazy on their part. Service was lacking as far as our waitress was concerned. She clearly did not want to wait on outsiders. Might have been tolerable if we had been waited on by someone else other than the racist old lady we had. There are far too many better establishments with friendly, not stuck in the past, racist employees for us to enjoy so we will never eat here again. Sorry we wasted our time and money here.

T’was our first time dining in, we’ve done pick up before. Our server was nice, she accommodated us really well and made sure we have everything we needed. We got the eggs benedict and the spoon slam. Both food were equally good. The place was clean as well. Will surely come back next time!

So we sat down at our table, and the minute I looked around and saw how we were different from the other clientele there, I should have known there were going to be issues. Other tables received food, drinks, and even their checks while we had to wait on our waitress to finally show up and get our drink order. Since we knew what we wanted, we went ahead and ordered our meals (thankfully) and she seemed “amused” at my incorrectly calling the Fat Spoon omelet something else (our first time here, so something easy to do). It took FOREVER to get our food out to us, while she happily checked on other tables and not once apologized for how long it was taking for our food. Meanwhile, i had to flag down our waitress for refills on our coffee. Once our food was (almost) at our table with the younger (generation) waitress bringing it out, our older (generation) waitress mistakenly corrected her to take our food to the wrong table (who had been seated many minutes after we had ordered). Her error was corrected by those patrons and we finally received our food, at which time our older (generation) waitress made it a point to again reference my incorrectly calling this dish something else (ironic, right?), as if she must have thought I was stupid or uneducated. After giving her the benefit of the doubt at first (because I’m not hateful or ignorant), I realized WHY her service was lacking towards only us, and why she chose to be condescending—ignorance, hate, and good old fashioned stuck in the past racism will make a person act like that, for no good reason. After all, shouldn’t “green” be the only color that matters in this instance? My point is, thanks to her (not so) subtle behavior towards “our type” it’s safe to say we won’t ever waste our time or money here again. And for anyone else who is an “outsider,” they should heed my warning. It sounds about…right…doesn’t it?

Pretty warm in here. The breakfast sandwich was flavorless. The bacon was thin, i thought it was microwaved. My wife said she thought it was low sodium. Whatever the case, there was no flavor and it was greasy. The breakfast potatoes were good, while they were hot. Staff friendly.

3/20/22 Arrived after 11:30 AM. The place was nearly full. I ordered a Reuben with sweet potato fries. The fries were good, perfectly fried and not too salty. The Reuben was good and the plate was visually attractive. Service was good. The place was clean and the ambiance was nice for that time of day and style of restaurant. I found the sandwich a little expensive, but my wife tells me I do not understand costs, especially now with inflation so high. All in all a pleasant visit. And my drink glass lasted me the meal. That was nice as I hate dry mouthing food.

It was ok. Honestly, I was a little disappointed after the great revues I was given by a friend.
