I have eaten at this restaurant three times. I have had three different waitresses. All of them were awesome, polite, and got the order correct. This is one of the few restaurants where if you ask for meat well done with no blood and you actually get what you asked for. The meat is really well done, tasty and still juicy and flavorful even though it is well done. The cooks understand the term well done and do it well. The owner makes a fantastic cheese cake.

Had a lousy meal here. My wife ordered their pulled pork sandwich, and in the middle of it was a huge chunk of cartilage or something. It was really gross and threw us both off. When we complained to the waitress, she agreed with us and took the plate back to the kitchen saying she’d see about getting a new sandwich. But instead, she returned with the same plate, with everything still the same, and told us that the manager told her that this is normal for pulled pork. She looked apologetic, and I could tell that she, personally, did not agree, but her manager had decided that they would do nothing. Every restaurant has an off day where something gets out to a customer that is not right, and how a restaurant handles that situation is what differentiates it from the competition. I’ve been in other restaurants where they handle mistakes much better – comp-ing food, or reducing a bill, correcting the problem, or sometimes even both. They chose to do nothing – so if you go there, I hope your meal comes out the way you want because if you complain, they’ll probably do nothing for you. Very disappointing experience. We’ll never go back.

I do not recommend eating here. My family and I had eaten here for a change. It took 20 minutes for some to receive their drinks. Although it wasn’t important, no one ever had gotten a straw. We had a party of 10 people. When we walked into the restaurant, there were only two or three tables filled. By the time the waitress had come to even order our drinks, families were being seated, served, and given a check. The crab we had ordered for an appetizer hadn’t come until after we received our food. Our steaks was undercooked and not juicy at all. The children proceeded to download games and play them for over 45 minutes while we waited for our check. When we had enough of waiting we politely asked the waitress what was going on, they said the computer had to be rebooted in order to receive our bill. We repeatedly suggested for them to write the bill down on paper and put it in the computer later. So finally after over 45 minutes of waiting, we received the bill and left. While leaving the owner had boldly yelled out eat at your own restaurant next time, which was totally rude and inconciterate. My family and I own a restaurant of our own. The least they could’ve done was comp out a drink or a dessert. We get how frustrating the computers can be, but there is no need to act like that to a customer. As while we were backing out to leave, the owner ran outside with a horrible look on her face looking for us. To be honest, this restaurant doesn’t even deserve a half of a star.

COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY TERRIBLE SERVICE! I cannot believe how rude the wait staff and owner were to our family. The computer system was not working and we were patiently waiting for our check as we waited for our food, which all of our steaks were undercooked. One of us finally suggested to find our bill and add it up, we own a restaurant we understand the trouble computers can be but the owner was unkind towards us and as we were leaving she said next time to eat at our own restaurant. Never going back. Awful experience and awful people.

Two broken pieces of toothpicks found inside a filet. Manager said it was due to cooks skewering bacon onto the filet- but there was NO bacon on the filet. And even if there was bacon on it, there is no excuse for that. That could have been dangerous. A burger came out rare when asked for it well done, sent it back and it came back out just the same. Waitress did not know the menu and provided poor service. Many mistakes were made by the waitress and food had to be sent back due to her taking the order wrong. We had a large party (18 of us) and the waitress assigned to us was not capable of serving a large party. Our overall experience was very poor and I do not recommend anyone eating there.

I had the pleasure of photographing some of their food items for their website. Afterwards Kathy treated me to some dishes and they were just wonderful. My wife and I have eaten here in the past and we’ve never been disappointed. Great food and many of the dessert items are made by the owner herself!

Place was half empty at 7pm Saturday , floor not clean , bathrooms were not clean , table sticky and our crab cakes were served cold to still frozen in the center . waiter took plates to the kitchen and it was obvious they had been microwaved. Service was pleasant. Will not return .

About a year ago this place overhauled their menu and got a new manager and chef. It shows. I’ve been there several times and I’ve always had good food and service.

Good food and good service and atmosphere. I love the Balti-Burger and the cheese steak. I suggest if you are a visitor in York than come to the Embers for a great experience.
