This used to be my favorite place but I have no plans to return. They have gone 100% vegetarian.

We came to this restaurant while exploring downtown and ordered the sample tray. It was delicious! Of course, we liked somethings more than others, but the staff was very friendly and the food is great. Helpful Tip: Tear the bread into pieces and use it to scoop up the food for an authentic experience. Vegetarian friendly.

Delicious! First time here and ordered the veggie combo. Everything was delicious, not sure why this place isn’t packed on a Friday evening for dinner but we will be back.

Amazing! I love that they’re all vegetarian and vegan now! Good for humans, the climate, and the animals. Also friendly service and decadent food. I’ve tried many Ethiopian restaurants in Washington DC, and Elsa’s gives them all a run for their money.

Food was awesome. Quantity was enough for 2 people.Even we had to pack our food home. If you want to try Ethiopian food , you should definitely give this a try. Staff was very cooperative.Loved the ambience with Ethiopian music. We paid approx $30 for 2 people but it was worth the money.

This is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant! I believe they are family owned, and everyone is super nice and knowledgeable about the menu. I highly recommend their vegetable platter and veggie sambusas if you’re a vegetarian. The Kik Alicha (yellow lentils) are my favorite!

If you have ever seen Ratitoulle, eating at Elsa’s will bring to mind the scene where Remy is explaining flavor combinations to Emile. This food is amazing! We had both the veggie and meat combo plates so we could try everything. With all of the bold, yet complimentary flavors, the possibilities are endless! My girls loved everything as well! Bonus!

I haven’t had Ethiopian food in over a decade. I was pleasantly surprised how favorable and mesmerizing the food was. Everything was edible on the plate and it was a nice experience to eat without utensils. Great customer service with a variety of options to choose from!

As I stepped in, you get a different feel of the surrounding since the music, the ambiance, the paintings are fresh and new to your eyes. The menu was soon handed by a aged person who I later came to know was the owner. He explained the menu and we had to wait around fifteen minutes for the order to arrive. To start with the appetizers, the Sambosas (2 quantities per serving) was somewhat okay and very close to the Indian samosas. Both in look and taste. What followed was the main course. The traditional Ethiopian style where members on a table share meal from one common large plate that includes soft circular and really soft breads and portions of a variety of Ethiopian dishes. I ordered a separate plate of Lamb tiffs due to non-vegetarian choices as compared to my friends. You have options of meat and non-meat combinations where you get a variety of small portions of dishes for almost the same price plus a couple of bucks extra. The food is authentic. Freshly cooked. And I can say prepared honestly. It is delicious. One main course is enough to suffice you. I will definitely be back. My first Ethiopian cuisine experience was really worth it. Try the honey Ethiopian wine too. We ended with the baklava which is again served one quantity per serving more than enough for a person. Looking forward to return. The service was great. It is a small restaurant with ten tables. So, if at all you visit when it is crowded, please don’t get frustrated with the service since the restaurant is run by a aged couple where the wife cooks and the husband manages and delivers to the customers coz the food will be totally worth your wait.
