I have been a customer since they opened their doors. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. We are typically takeout customers do to our busy schedules. Their Mexican style tacos, flautas, Grilled chicken salad, Chimichangas and their nachos are delicious and flavorful. My husband and I will occasionally stop in and enjoy their margaritas. If you are looking for a warm welcome, drinks, and delicious food then stop here!

My weekend foodie plans with my dad took us to his favorite Mexican restaurant, El Tenampa. Now I have had some good Mexican food in my time, but this place has solidified it’s place as number one in my book! To start they brought out some very nicely warmed tortilla chips and a red salsa The chips were perfectly thin, crispy and warm. The salsa had a wonderful mild flavor. We asked for an additionally spicy version and were brought a Verde salsa that was a perfect blend of pepper and citrus flavors. I ordered the seafood burrito and two side tacos (shredded beef and pork) on corn tortillas with onion and cilantro. While my dad orderd Chile rellenos with steak, beef mole enchilada and a beef tostada. (Pictures of all are attached). My seafood burrito was absolutely loaded with shrimp and crab with a smooth cheesy sauce on top as well as inside. Accompanied with refried beans and rice. I kid you not, this was the best refried beans and rice side I have ever had at a restaurant. The pork and shredded beef tacos paired well with the Verde salsa making a wonderful combination of flavor. Now dad absolutely loved his chili relenos with steak. The plate was loaded with toppings and meat. The beef mole enchilada although a smaller side version was big on flavor. Nice smoky mole with cheese and sour cream. Finally the tostada was crispy and again loaded with toppings. I was starving walking in and left stuffed with box for later to boot. Hidden gem on Milwaukee’s north side. There is Mexican food and then there is the food at El Tenampa, the absolute epitomy of wonderful Mexican food a head above the rest!!! Highly recommend!!!

I had the large Horchata. Came in a huge beer mug….loved it. I went with Birria taco. Which is now my benchmark for quality mexican. Who has outstanding Birria tacos? El Tenampa does. I promise you that. The soup to dip your tacos in isn’t so salty. The tacos are well portioned. The atmosphere is typical mexican and the dinning room was clean. I’d go back if I was in the area.

The Food was good. I got the cheese enchiladas, needed more seasoning but I still liked it. My husband got a carne asada and he really enjoyed it. The waitresses were there like they didn’t wanna be. Not one smile. We asked for the check to another waitress because ours was no where to be found and she said “she’ll get it in a bit” but didn’t even let her know.. she just kept walking.

Excellent experience, calm, relaxing, and inviting atmosphere. Clean restaurant and friendly service. The food was delicious and good size portions. Extremely tasty horchata that may be purchased by the glass or pitcher (for you horchata lover’s out there)! I will definitely be returning in the near future ️

Excellent drink specials…my friends and I especially love the buy one get one $5 margaritas on Thursdays. Convenient location and it saves me a trip from having to go downtown. The food is great and the bartender Arnold is awesome! Neighborhood friendly business….it’s worth the try!

I drove by this past weekend and saw this place was packed so we decided to stop by for dinner tonight so glad we did food was fabulous fresh ingredients in every bite. The atmosphere was festive. Wait staff and service was cordial and prompt even answered all questions regarding our food options. They sang happy birthday to a table near us. I’ll be back next visit to Milwaukee.

The food was pretty good, but the service was not. We sat outside and waited for service for a while. After we got our food, the server didn’t come back, so I had to go find someone to get more soda.

I order here because it’s close to my home and my family loves Mexican food. But, EVERYTIME I come here there’s a problem! My order is not ready, 20 minutes after they said it would be, my total is ALWAYS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT IT QUOTES ME ONLINE OR OVER THE PHONE! How???!! Don’t visit this place it’s not worth the money or time! Food is okay at best!
