Tried for the first time, and food looked delicious but did not taste like it looked. The rice was slightly undercooked, and beans needed a little more flavor. The meat had a really good flavor, but I don’t think it was fajita it was more like milanesa or aguja… I wasn’t completely disappointed, but I did wish the flavors were there. The service was great, and the waiter was very attentive.

First time at this restaurant, and my mother and I had a great overall experience. Starting with the amazing customer service from the servers, especially ours, Julio. Everything looked good, and the menu had pictures of some items. I tried the enchiladas suizas, and my mom tried the caldo de mariscos. We both enjoyed our plated and rate them a 9/10. Will definitely come back so my dad can give them a try.

El Portón is a hidden gem when it comes to authentic Mexican cuisine. The moment you step inside, you are greeted with the aroma of fresh ingredients and traditional flavors. The staff is cordial and attentive, always willing to help you make the perfect selection from the wide range of delicious dishes to choose from. They are also willing to accommodate to specific dietary restrictions.

Food was absolutely awesome. Had an omelette that did not disappoint, each bite was just as good as the last. I’m excited to return and try something else from the menu.

Meh. We came around 2pm and had the slowest service. They were slow to take our order and slow to bring us our food. Nothing was special. The food was the same basic Mexican food you can find all over the RGV. The beef was super dry and crispy like old and overcooked. From the other reviews and pictures that look good I was shocked how it actually wasn’t good. The salsa they bring you has a strong taste of fake lime juice.

Would definitely recommend to try this place at least once. This is what we ordered and it was really good. Red and green salsa were perfect. They served chips with black beans and red salsa will you wait to order. Excellent service and food came out pretty fast. Came in at 9am. Will go back to try out more plates for sure.

This is a great place to go for Mexican food. The service was great and the food was delicious. I had the quesibirria tacos. They were filling and had good flavor to them. It has a quiet atmosphere with a lot of potential for big gatherings.

The menu is in Spanish. Gringa has a hard time to figure out what to order. Does not speak or read Spanish. Servers don’t speak English. Hard to order. They don’t even try to help you understand what you’re ordering. That’s why we have not been back. Questions on dishes below aren’t even in English!

I give 5 stars for everything. It was very clean, food was great, service was on point. From when we ordered to when we got the food, it was quick. From my wife and three kids and I, we loved the food. It kind of reminded me like a Mexican version of Cracker Barrel. I highly recommend to everyone.

Menudo pansitas were cut too large I was not able to eat it plus it has a different smell. Might be the spices. Barbacoa tasted very good, fresh and tortillas were good but some might say under cooked. Staff was fast and considerate. I will try lunch next time.
