A little food history in my search for the best Taco Al Pastor on my San Diego visit. A vertically grilled meat dish, now known by several names, was wide spread throughout the Ottoman Empire. The Lebanese version, shawarma, was brought to Mexico in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by a wave of Lebanese immigrants, mainly Christians such as the Maronites who have no religious dietary restrictions on eating pork.

Food coma isn’t even the word! So many delicious choices, generous portions and priced fairly. I like the elote already comes in a to go cup with lid and there is a self serve salsa bar. Also Mexican Coke

The enchiladas were good! The sauce was really good; nice flavor, mellow, smooth, and they were loaded with shredded chicken which also had a nice flavor.

Stopped at El Gordo on a recent trip to San Diego. The food was authentic, and the atmosphere was nice but dated.

We were running late, and it was raining. We saw this place and decided to eat the dinner. The place is small and majorly focused for drive through. It was almost closing time when we were there. So it was fully empty inside. Only one person was managing the restaurant and his English was choppy. We managed to converse and he got us food. The tacos were good, although in one of the tacos, I got scrambled eggs instead of meat . I think they were running out or is it the ‘more authentic way’ ? He insisted us to taste the birria, which was decent. Most of the food was a bit greasy and decent. Overall economic, but nothing fancy.

Used to be my go-to spot for Mexican food. I work right down the street and I would spend $40 – $60/ week. Not anymore.

My Burrito was huge, more than one meal or plenty to share. The salsa was most excellent! The service was friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a return trip!

I’ve been a regular at this place for over a year, and I strongly believe some of the lesser reviews don’t do it justice. The birria tacos are especially delicious at a fantastic price.
