Awesome Puerto Rican cuisine. Proprietor Andy is awesome – friendly helpful and takes care of you. The food is incredible. Lots of space on the patio, and room inside. Liquor permit coming soon.

Finally found this little hidden gem! Our waitress Jamie was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed everything about this place!! The empanadas were delicious as an appetizer, the Pernil is perfectly marinated and roasted and the pork chop melted in your mouth. The tres leche dessert was homemade so we shared a piece to top off our meal. Fabulous and we will definitely be back!

I Celebrated my 71th birthday this June 21 at El Coqui and it was such a delightful experience. Our server Andy was superb, he took care of us and made us feel so comfortable and served us the most delicious food ever. We want to thank the proprietor Ray for having such a warm fun filled place it is a gift to the community. The food is exquisite with it’s traditional Latin flavor that makes your toes twirl wit joy. The pernil, rice and beans, stewed beef to die for, the incredible Cuban sandwich and don’t start me on those delicious empanadas. Everything was on point loved it. I am going back again this Friday yummy

My husband and I have been there 3 times. Love the food. We have tried the empanada trio, wings, pork chop special, pulled pork and the Cuban. Loved everything and also the Flan. The people there are very nice too! We will be going back again. It’s a nice change from seafood, fried food and Mexican food.

My husband and I finally made it to the new restaurant in Shallotte and we were very happy we did. The food was delicious, we met the owner who was very nice and polite. It’s nice to have another place in town to gather with family and friends. We will definitely be supporting this family ran restaurant and highly recommend it to others.

FINALLY some Puertorican cuisine locally!! The wife (who was born on the island) & I made the visit here & loved it! Flavor was great!! And they even had pasteles, which is a rarity in general. The folks there working were really nice. I see so much potential for this group & I really hope they make it.

This place is amazing! I’m half Puerto Rican and I’ve not had the food outside of NYC unless I make it myself. Everything tasted like my grandma made it. I got teary eating the chicken stew. My husband got the pernil and it was also really really good. If you’re not familiar with PR food, it’s not spicy, but very flavorful. It’s a unique treat in Shallotte, worth the drive and truly authentic! I can’t wait to go back.

Waitress and owner were very attentive and accommodating. The food was great. We were from out of town on business and came across this place by accident. We all enjoyed the food. This place is very clean and spotless. Which was one of the first things I look for in a restaurant. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for Puertorican food.

So glad to have a new restaurant in the area. So good! Service was perfect. Met a lot of the family and they’re so excited to finally be open. The empanadas are not to be missed! Chicken and rice was very good as well. We’ll be back.
