We went to Duke’s today and had an absolutely amazing experience! We are from Minnesota so had many questions about the food items on the buffet and the lady that was running the cash register was so polite and helpful! My husband and I tried many different items and it was all delicious. Also, while we were eating, a gentleman came out to talk to us about where we were from and also gave us ideas of what to do while we are in Charleston. And to top it off, they have excellent dessert choices. This has to be one of the best restaurant experiences we’ve ever had! Thanks Duke’s BBQ!!

This is a nice southern food buffet! the only buffet opens since covid in my memory. If you wanna see homegrown South Carolina bbq, that’s the place to go. The fried chicken was good but fried fish is only served on Fridays. Mac and cheese were not my favorite but fried okra was tasty. Pulled pork was deliiiisious. You pay a fee of $16 per adult for all you can eat so come here hungry

I am a 78 year old disabled veteran. I wear my disabled veteran hat to show my pride in serving. It was very visible to everyone inside. As a part of my handicap, I cannot stand or walk any distance. Yesterday, my wife and I sent to Dukes for lunch. As usual, I went in and sat down while my wife stood in line to pay. A young employee told me I had to leave the table and go stand in line because a part of five was going to sit at my table. There was no reservation sign on the booth which was designed for four people, not five. I tried to explain my handicap to her but she returned to the cash register. A minute later, she returned and demanded I leave the booth for a party of 5. Not wishing any confrontation, I signaled for my wife and we left without dining. To be honest, the young lady was not rude or demeaning, but she was not going to let me sit at the booth. Perhaps the party of 5 were some of her folks. Anyways, except for this one occasion, we are always treated and fed well at Dukes. Hopefully, we’ll return in the future. Maybe on Memorial Day where I can wear my hat with pride.

Duke’s is a good old-fashioned country Bar-B-Q buffet. Their hash & rice is decent, good fried chicken, yummy BBQ sauce…but the standout item here is the mac-n-cheese!!! I think it’s the best in Charleston. It’s the kind my Grandmother used to make.

I will start with a high note. The collard greens were the highlight of the buffet. All the chicken and pork was dry. For a BBQ buffet, I expected at least an attempt of brisket. No beef on the buffet. Also, the rice was still hard. The hash was not terrible. The desert though, the “pit crew” didn’t know if the one was blueberry or cherry. It was cherry. The banana pudding was probably three boxes of nilla wafers to one banana. I’ve been looking for a good bbq buffet, but this is not it. Moose’s in summerville was great before they closed. My search continues.

The food was pretty good, kinda pricey though, but it wasn’t bad, the food was nicely seasoned and the dessert was my all time favorite strawberry shortcake, delicious!! (The banana pudding was good too). The cashier could be a bit more friendlier, (thus the reasoning for the 4 star instead of 5) other than that, a nice place to dine.
