Down Island is one of our area’s few chef-owned and family-operated restaurants. It is the brainchild of Chef Brannon Janca, co-founder of Stinky’s Fish Camp. Down Island combines Chef Janca’s passion for modern-casual dining and Gulf South cuisine to create a fun, creative and inviting atmosphere. Our menu features elevated regional favorites, including wood-fired seafood and raw bar selections. Chef Janca’s wife is also a dietitian, so one can expect plenty of options for non-seafood lovers and accommodations for those with special diets and allergies, as well.

Highly recommended! The fried shrimp and fried oysters were just fantastic. They were good sized, the batter was perfectly flavored and not too thick. Very good hush puppies too. The sauce they provided and the cocktail was very tasty. The service with a smile was very good although we got there just as they opened. Top notch for sure!

This place is 5 stars for the food and the incredible service!! Not the greatest vibe, but we got fine dining level service. The server knew the menu incredibly well and had tried everything which is always a great sign. Thank you, Anderson! We got oysters, 2 ways, the KingKlip pan seared, and I got the toast of the day, which was burrata, roasted duck, roasted peaches, and local pepper jelly. We were gifted with a gift card here, but you are missing out if you don’t check this place out!

We went here today, 7/22/23. You order at the counter, and they bring it to you. The food is fabulous. Please do yourself the favor of starting with the crab and leek soup. My God is it good. Also, great job with the oyster and shrimp basket. Basically, everything here was great.

Service was ok. 45 minute wait for dinner. Server said it was due to a 26 party upstairs. What about the people down stairs. Servers did their best to keep us content. Tourist wise, you’ll probably love it but for a Florida person that knows seafood… nope!

Y’all!! We have family that live here and have been coming for years. This is seriously the best restaurant in Santa Rosa Beach. Great service, wonderful atmosphere, and fantastic food!! We had the Fried Green Tomatoes, wood fire oysters with garlic herb, and scallops with the best mashed potatoes I have ever had in my life. Do yourself a favor and check them out. You won’t be disappointed

The unique menu offerings are amazing! We tried the raw oysters, sourdough bread topped with scallops and mushrooms, and the whole pompano special. It was all amazing. The pompano was my favorite! Very unique and tasty. And the service, superb. They were attentive to refills, citrus for drinks was anticipated, constantly checking in. The food came quickly. Definitely coming back!
