I was so excited about this place after my vegan friend told me she breaks her veganism to have the beef sandwich here. Perhaps I came in with too high of expectations but the food was totally average. We ordered the #1 (house smoked 5 spice pulled pork), #4 (red wine braised beef), and #5 (house roasted turkey). Sandwiches looked better than they tasted. They were okay. If I was vegan, this wouldn’t turn me. It looks like they do make their own bread which is cool. Tomato jam wasn’t balanced. I lived in Germany and grew up on German potato salad… this looked sad, the texture was off, the flavor wasn’t it. The prices were solid for nowadays. Service was rough but one guy was cool. Not driving back to Hawthorne for this though.

Updated review Aug 2023: Still the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Prices have gone up a bit but still worth the trip from Olympia, WA.

It’s a simple sandwich shop with around 12 options, but the sandwiches are genuinely excellent. I had the pulled pork sandwich, which was delicious. I also sampled the grilled asparagus, which was also great.

My quintessential PDX late night sandwich spot. The sandwiches are always amazing even when it’s not their best night. With it being connected to No Fun, some nights can be kind of crazy and you can see it on the staff’s face. But fear not, just tip well (they like a variety of goodies if you’re a fan of the barter system) and they tend to be cool and will hook it up. Either way, worth making it a part of your late night repertoire.

So, I wouldn’t normally do this but the experience rubbed me in such a wrong way that I came to the reviews to see if other delivery drivers received the same treatment. It honestly looks like this is a very well looked upon place. I have no idea what I did to receive different treatment from the person I did.

So I used to LOVE this sandwich shop. They tended to knock it out of the park each time. Fresh ingredients and awesome bread. But when I pay extra for toppings, like extra kale, it’s a joke. The turkey barely covers the bed of the sandwich. One piece of cheese that is sadly tossed on top. It’s been a consistent disappointment each time, that is leaving me feeling like I’m in a bad relationship and keeping going back. Devil’s Dill, what happened?

Really disappointed because I’ve been here before and today’s experience was pretty awful. The music was so loud it was painful and the person taking the order was extremely quiet and mumbling. The floor was super dirty in the back, and one of the people went from touching raw bacon with bare hands to a bunch of other food without washing hands or anything. I tried to eat my sandwich, but it was wrapped poorly and half of it fell out the side/bottom as I was holding it. Mine actually was pretty decent tasting, but my partner’s was kind of terrible. I’m probably not going to come back, and I can’t recommend anyone go after that.

Great sandwiches that you can get super late. Had to order my sandwich in the bar next door but it was such a neat place with live music and local art. Sandwich was fantastic larger than I expected.

This was a delicious sandwich. I would 100% recommend it. Seating was a little limited but that’s just the kind of place it is, and I would say it adds to the charm. It’s definitely very “Portland” which should give you an idea of whether or not you want to stop by (you do).

I’ve been coming here off and on for years now. My favorite and go-to is the No.4. They’ve always got pretty dope specials too. The prices are kinda rough but they make up for it in quality. You get what you pay for in this case I suppose. I take my friends here whenever I get the chance and show them just how bomb a sandwich can be. Cheers!
