TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A.
In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.

The food was great and salty. The sandwich of chicken was longer than a bread but I really like it. First time ever got bite of this chicken and fries.

Decent chicken sandwich spot. Limited menu, but that’s the beauty of these type of establishments. They focus on their specialties and make it apparent to their customers of what they’re known for. Quick service: order at counter, wait for your item to be called, and you go from there. Generous portioning, fair value pricing, clean and comfortable interior. The flavor can be a bit overwhelming after a few bites, but condiments can change that. Overall, this is my second time there, and I’d visit again if I wanted a quick bite if I was in the area.

Daves Hot Chicken has to have the best chicken in the bay area. Everything here is delicious. Personally I get the Medium spice, its the perfect level of spiciness. Their food has so much flavor and I love coming here, pretty affordable as well.

We ordered the number 3, which includes one chicken slider, tender, and fries. We selected hot as the level of spice. Each slider contained a hearty piece of chicken and a generous amount of light, crispy breading. The pickles were of excellent quality and had just the proper amount of acidity to go nicely with the chicken’s heat. The unique sauce is much more tangy and sweet than others.

We like coming here for dinner, sometimes to grab a chicken sandwich. They don’t have many choices on the menu. It’s like a three-item selection.

I came here with my brother to try it out. I ordered the slider and tender meal (#3). I asked the guy taking my order how spicy was “hot” on a scale of 1-10. He just said that it lived up to the hype and was really spicy. I like spicy food but not mouth burning hot so I ended up with medium. I thought medium was really mild and the guy oversold the spice level. At least now I know. The fries were really good because I love crinkle cut but it was over salted. The mac and cheese took an extra 15 minutes to make and it was not worth it. The cheese was water down and really bland.

Finally made time to try out Dave’s Hot Chicken and now I’m definitely a fan! This whoops on Chick Fil A. DHC got better quality, fresher ingredients-kale slaw and real pickles, better price, shorter lines/wait, better portions… Put it this way, you paying less for a restaurant style quality chicken sandwich over a fast food McChicky-Fil-A! DHC all day!

I’m thankful that they have about seven different spice levels, including no spice. I went with mild and it was still a little spicy for me (I have a terribly low spice tolerance) but the chicken was fantastic. It’s perfectly fried, well seasoned, and one slider on its own is filling. The fries also have great seasoning on them, and you get some complimentary slices of bread with the tenders. This might be my new favorite chicken sandwich place.
