Established in 1899, Dante & Luigi’s is one of the oldest existing Italian restaurants in the United States.

Situated in the heart of the Italian Market district, it was once the destination of Italian immigrants arriving in Philadelphia. Unable to speak English, they arrived on the docks with the name of the restaurant written on a scrap of paper and pinned to their lapels. They were given lodging in the upstairs rooms and work in the restaurant.
Dante & Luigi’s retains much of the same atmosphere as it had in the past. Housed in two converted town houses, the charm of yesterday still exists. The cuisine is a well-balanced mix of homemade, “Old World” specialties, along with delicious fresh seafood and exceptional daily specials.

Dante and Luigi’s is a Philly staple- Italian cooking that tastes like it came right from my grandmother’s kitchen. I am always hesitant to give less than a 5-star rating to businesses, especially in the world we are living in, but I was disappointed in the experience I had with the hostess who was abrupt and asked for vaccine cards from my party of 5 who were properly masked. We willingly followed the restaurant policy as posted on their website and the signage that was hanging in the facility. She proceeded to do this to every party that walked in. The food, the ambiance, service by Victor and help-staff, and the attentiveness from the General Manager made up for the poor welcome I received at the front end. I will be back!
