First timer review – First things first, very clean restaurant and nice chill music. A nice sized menu, but a few things on the menu weren’t available. The teriyaki chicken was delicious. Every meal is served with rice and potato/mac salad. Which was interesting and surprisingly good. The portions are large so if you don’t want a lot get a mini mea not the regular.

I had the crispy pata, and it was perfect. Super tender meat with a perfect crisp crust. The Mac salad it came with was also great, and a decent amount of rice came with it for a decent price. It’s a lot of food so it was well worth it. And of course, I had to add a musubi to the mix. It’s a really clean environment with good music playing and nice to relax. I’m definitely gonna cone back to try some of the other dishes in the near future.

MAIKA’I !!! One of a kind, true authentic, and just unbelievable it is in the food desert of El Paso. The moment you walk in the atmosphere is a bit different and you can smell the amazing food combinations. This is a family owned business that have owners and chefs from the islands in the Central Pacific. And let me tell you, the regular portion can feed two to three people. This place has large portions! From the first bite to your last, you will taste the love and care that went into making your meal. This is a definite food destination. You Must Try! We will confidently and willingly be visiting frequently.

Quick stop for lunch took us back to the islands. Great food, and great people will come back often. I got the loco Moco regular, wife got the chicken katsu mini. The portions are not to be underestimated. 10/10

Just came from there it is packed! For good reason too. The food is so so delicious and the service was exceptional. The husband had the Loco moco and said the flavor was so good. I had the spicy chicken katsu. The meat was extremely tender, the rice was steamed perfectly, and the macaroni salad was refreshing. The food was so good we took a meal to go as well. The cashier is SO pretty and cute. She was so upbeat the whole time. Can’t wait to go back1

I’m really trying to love this place but so far it’s been an effort! I’ve read every review and for the life of me I’m just not getting it. I’ve been twice and both times I came away feeling disappointed. My impression of the location is great! Clean facility and very friendly staff. Easy to find with abundant parking. The customers seemed to be regulars and very nice people. Always a good sign. I ordered pulehu ribs, spam musubi and a sweet rice dessert that reminded me of mochi. The ribs were incredibly chewy! I didn’t get beyond the first bite. Musubi is always a treat for me so no surprise there. I wasn’t a fan of the macaroni salad. The pasta was either overcooked or over saturated with dressing because the salad was soggy. My redemption visit wasn’t as disappointing but still a letdown. I ordered the chicken katsu, loco moco and pulehu ribs….again. The katsu was crisp, tender and juicy but it tasted like it was fried in old grease. The rice was not fully cooked and had a bit of a bite. So much so that you could see the white spot in the middle of the grain. The macaroni salad is still not hitting the mark for me. Loco moco was moist and delicious and the gravy was good but so little was drizzled over it and the crunchy rice just ruined it, not to mention the overcooked egg. This time the ribs stole the show!! They were perfectly seasoned and grilled! I asked for medium and that’s exactly what I got. Again the sides were so disappointing that I tossed them. I’m not ready to throw in the towel just yet. Maybe the chef was off his game or whoever does the prep work was having a bad day…in any case they get one more strike. I’m not exactly sure when because there are so many other options and I’m not wild about paying good money for mediocre quality. To be continued…

I would’ve given this place a 5 star rating but I won’t. Only due to the fact that I’ve gone there multiple times in the last month and they’ve sold out of food. I Iive on the west side so the 30mins drive was a waste of gas only to find out by their staff they sold out of food about 3 hours before their scheduled closing time. I didn’t mind it the first time but then the second time it happened I was a little frustrated and I had to let my frustration known to the lady that was at the front. How do you not have enough food to serve people in your scheduled business hours? Second, they never had any musubis everytime I’ve gone there or called. I never understood this. Or they would say, we’re not selling musubis at the moment. This has me so confused. So you just have items on your menu but you’re not planning on making them? They have to do better. Other than that, I have to give the food a 10/5. The quality, portions, taste and everything in between exceeded my expectations.
