An Eastie favorite, Cunard Tavern draws its inspiration from the rich nautical history of East Boston’s Shipyard and the those whose search of the American Dream began when they landed there. Second only to Ellis Island, East Boston was the port of entry for many immigrants in search of opportunity who helped build this great neighborhood.
Featuring: late night bar scene, rooftop patio with city skyline views, deep whiskey reserves, and a constant rotation of craft beers.
Filippo and Philip Frattaroli of Filmark Hospitality Group (behind North End restaurants Lucia, Ducali, and Filippo) trace their roots to East Boston. They opened Cunard Tavern there in 2017 on the Jeffries Point site of Filippo’s father’s cabinet-making business.
Historic East Boston space offering American plates with global style, craft beers & water views. Based on 536 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.3 stars. Price $$

We went to go get drinks on the rooftop deck and had issues with a large group also up there. There were two guys ordering drinks so we got behind them in line to order, and all of a sudden their whole group just kept squeezing in front of us and ordering more and more. They had no regard for personal space, were drunk and obnoxious, and continuously tried to “push” us out of the way. The bartender saw all of this happening and ignored it completely. We were left to just wait patiently and take all of this behavior towards us because we didn’t want to start anything, but it was very upsetting and ruined our visit there. We probably will never go back because this is how we associate the restaurant now.

We come here about once a month after a Downeast trip. Food is really good: both burgers are great. The spring rolls and the bacon wrapped dates are good appetizers. Seating is also great, especially in the summer when they have the whole place opened up

Return visit for late afternoon dining, and it didn’t disappoint. Friendly staff, casual atmosphere, excellent food. Tried the Brussel salad with shrimp and for an appetizer, the tricolor hummus, delicious.

We came here because it was in walking distance of Downeast. We were not disappointed. Atmosphere was very hip, groovy for a Friday night. Service was fast. Food was veryyyy tasty. I wish the portions for appetizers were more clear. We got mushroom ravioli (not pictured) which only came with 2. But the hummus (pictured) was HUGE! You might want to ask first ♀️

The drinks were perfectly blended and sweet potato fries was amazing. Most don’t do it right and there limp. But they had a nice crisp to them n crunchy. They played some nice house music and the service was quick as well as friendly.

I had a marvelous time here as a first visit with a buddy. The food was delicious and drink options plentiful. Great atmosphere, too! Rose was a delight at the bar. We’re definitely coming back!

I recently had an unfortunate experience with a take-out brunch. I ordered Eggs Benedict, which was meant to include mushrooms and sauce. However, what I received was far from the promised dish – it was laden with bacon and missing the sauce completely. Regrettably, the food was bland and uninspiring, prompting me to decide that I won’t be returning to this establishment.

I really want to give this place five stars. There’s a lot to like. They’ve got some good options for food and for drinks, the staff has been great the two or three times I’ve been, and overall, a nice place to eat. Not wanting to devalue my other five-star ratings, I’ll be a bit critical and say that the Brussel sprouts were a little too firm, the chicken and waffles were a little too dry, and not having a mac & cheese dish on their menu full-time is silly (it is on their kids menu and they have some sauce, maybe a chipotle aioli, that kicks it up a couple notches). A few years ago I added a scrambled egg to a tater tots dish (brunch menu) and that was great, now I don’t see tots on the menu at all. Rotating menus keep things fresh, but at the cost of losing some favorites. Solid four and a half stars.

Food is good. Service is friendly and quick. Cool atmosphere. Price point seems reasonable for the neighborhood. The hummus trio was delicious and had interesting unique flavors. Our mains were ok, didnt blow out minds but would still come back and try something else.
