I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cruz’s and I have to say, this place is an absolute gem! As someone who moved to Iowa from Los Angeles two years ago, I have been searching for a breakfast spot that can rival the flavors of my beloved LA breakfasts. Cruz’s did not disappoint – it easily ranks in my top 5 breakfast spots in Iowa!

We visited Cruz’s Cafe for the first time on Saturday for breakfast. I liked the unique atmosphere. It’s a small, somewhat retro atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised to see vegan options on the menu. However I was disappointed to find that they were out of vegan pancake mix. Our staff was very nice and made every attempt to rectify the situation. I did get to have the vegan eggs and sausage which was absolutely delicious. My dining partner had the Cedar Rapids omelette. He reported it as absolutely fantastic.

Someone at the doggy daycare recommended this place to me. I sat at the bar as I normally do when I’m dining alone. The server was quick to greet me as soon as I walked in and again when I sat. She was patient while I looked through the menu and was attentive when I put the menu down. My coffee was fresh and served immediately. I ordered an eggs benedict flight which included 3 different types for those of us that can’t make a decision. I got the Country, Mardi Gras, and Florentine. With all 3 vastly different from each other, I’m surprised that they were all so good! The country gravy was reminiscent of the gravy my aunt would make for holidays. The shrimp were plump and cooked correctly while the andouille sausage was perfectly spiced on the Mardi Gras. The Florentine was absolutely perfect in the way the sautéed spinach complemented the diced tomatoes and hollandaise. Everything was good here! From staff to cleanliness to attentiveness to decor. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I’ve never had a bad meal. Cruz’s Cafe is a fun local diner with generous portions, made to order. Just be prepared to wait as they’re often busy.

I’ve ate here before and it was great. I was in there July 4th and the food was terrible. Bacon tasted liked it was made the day before, and the eggs tasted like they were old. Had Bloody Mary’s and couldn’t even drink them, told the waitress that they didn’t taste good and all she said was ok. For 35.28 dollars I expected the food and drinks to be much better. Very disappointed.

Burrito was very very large stuffed with steak and the usual. There were so many jalapeños actually had to take some out. Overall very good. The shipwreck breakfast platter that I had was loaded with lots of meat and eggs. Loved it. There was a huge mimosa option that says includes a full bottle of champagne, we saw one being consummed but didn’t have it in us that morning to try. Be patient with your servers as there were less of them than could accommodate all patrons.

Food was excellent; it was fast, it was fresh, it was reasonably priced, our server was excellent! Cheese fries were delicious along with their Philly cheese! My family and I will definitely be returning!

The eggs Benedict flight looked so good I couldn’t wait to take a photo before digging in. Only 12 bucks! I chose Cruz, Florentine, and Country. Nom nom nom. Enough for breakfast and lunch. My coffee cup holds a surprise: coffee and cream with Kahlua. What’s not to love?

The food was TERRIFIC. The waitress was very attentive even though they were busy. She was very patient with a difficult 10 year old. Believe me that that was addressed with the 10 year old! Good coffee and white russians.

Just left, place was pretty full with the exception of the outdoor patio, we were meeting our children and two small grandchildren, there was a table inside with 2 chairs, stood for about 5 minutes when the waitress yelled across the floor ” you can have a seat where ever’ uhmm I have 4 adults 2 children? None of the patio tables were set up, chairs still up on the tables- do you have high chiars- can we use an umbrella for our small guests since your patio is in full sun? We stood for about 6 more minutes and no one ever did come over to see if we needed more assistance. I was excited to try this place due to all the reviews, I wish customer service was as important as it was when I was a server. Unfortunately we went down the road and spent our breakfast time at a different breakfast Cafe.
