We had the most delicious meal in the most relaxing atmosphere looking out on the Mississippi river. I, like sweet drinks, and I had the most delectable French martini made by Autumn. We had chicken salad on croissants & ham and pineapple soup. For dessert I had homemade vanilla ice cream, and Hot fudge. But my husband had crapes filled with orange cream sauce. And those were incredible. I highly recommend this place. Just wonderful!

The food is pretty expensive for the quality and portion size.

This is the old pilot house. They have old pictures around the front. The brunch on Sunday looks awesome just wish we had been there then. Our group had salmon, corn chowder, house salad and Cajun Pasta. The only complaint was that the pasta was almost too cheesy, they wanted more of a cream sauce. Service was great. We were a walk in but a few tables had been reserved.

My main measure of a restaurant is “do we want to return?” The resounding answer here is absolutely yes. Such a lovely location and atmosphere. The service was a little scattered for a not full restaurant but the food was excellent. Looking forward to trying other items on future visits.

History surrounds you with a commanding view of the Mississippi River from the bluff above downtown LeClaire, Iowa. The spacious front dining rooms feature original floors, wood work and fireplaces of the beautiful Dawley House constructed in 1851 and is on the National Historic Register (1979). The board of fare changes frequently with specials & seasonal offerings. The food is expertly prepared, seasoned well and very few menu items are not homemade in the house kitchen. The food each visit has been hot and pleasingly presented. The bar is well appointed with several huge windows overlooking the Mississippi River. The bar is also well appointed with a high quality and selection of offering. Cleanliness is obviously a priority here! The staff is very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. It is a special experience to dine here and is certainly a reflection of the managing ownership’s committment to excellence. WELL DONE ‘CRANE & PELICAN’! KUDOS!!!

What a wonderful little spot right on the Mississippi River in LeClaire Iowa. The owner was quite nice and very easy to talk to. The food was good and the ambiance splendid. I can just imagine a wonderful snowy winter evening having a nice dinner in this ancient old river house.

Recently hired the Crane & Pelican for a wedding caterer and would highly recommend. Working with the owner was great and very helpful to get ideas on how to best serve our guests based on the experience she has. The food was great, and the presentation was even better. Service was timely and pricing was comparable to others for what we feel was an experience that couldn’t have been outdone.

The interesting building first caught our eye, plus the great views over the Mississippi. It is an interesting older building with lots of historic details, including wood floors. Whenever the waiter ran past (and he was always running!) the floor shook- quite unsettling!

We had Crane & Pelican cater our wedding and Mandy was incredible. We had so many compliments on the food and everything was displayed so perfectly. They were very attentive and responsive to questions/concerns we had throughout the entire planning process. I am so happy we chose to cater from here, it was perfect. The spicy cajun chicken pasta was SO good!!
