We went early (5:30 pm) and were seated at a table by the water. The crab balls were excellent! The shrimp were cooked to perfection. We ordered the Senior dinners of shrimp and scallops which were lightly battered and fried; again perfection! Our waitress was very nice as were all the staff we came in contact with. The atmosphere is homey and not fancy at all, but that makes this restaurant so charming. We will return’

My partner and I ate here while on our vacation to sunset beach and we had a wonderful time! The food was delicous, they gave us hush puppies to start which were probably the best hush puppies I’ve ever had! We had the crab balls which were delicous although we thought they were going to be bigger. And we had the hellacious barge low country boil and it was fantastic, we were blown away with how good the shrimp were! Our server Caroline was absolutley delightful!!

What a disappointment. My family and I have been coming to Sunset Beach for decades, and Crabby Oddwaters was one of our favorite restaurants. We missed last year so we’re excited and anticipating a great meal, as we only can afford to eat out once during our week vacation. We were seated after a short wait, and immediately realized this was not the place we fondly remembered. The beautiful seashell collection was gone (ok I understand the looks of a place change, but this was like a seashell museum they housed) and we were handed menus that had completely changed as well. Gone was the delicious grilled shrimp and scallops, replaced by fast food style fried everything. We swallowed our disappointment and decided to give it a try. I ordered a glass of Cabernet and was told they were out of red wine. Ok, unusual, but do you have a wine or beer list? No, I was told, but they had Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. No brand names offered. I ordered a glass of the Pinot Grigio and it was corked. In the meantime we asked for kids menus, and again we’re told there were no printed menus, but the waiter gave us a quick rundown of kids choices. Ok we ordered the kids chicken fingers and a hamburger with fries. They came out first and were overcooked and not edible. I ordered a Grouper sandwich (fried only choice). I’ve had better fish sandwiches at McDonalds, as it was overcooked and greasy. My wife and daughter ordered the she crab soup and clam chowder. What came out looked like sample cups you would taste at Sam’s Club. See photo. And these were 7.00 each. Soup was bland and uninteresting. On top of that, everything is served on paper plates, and if you ask for ketchup you’re going to get little packets. We asked for the manager or owner, neither were available. The bartender came over and was nice enough, but said they were moving away from fine dining and going with a fast fish camp style. He obviously comped our meal, as we had barely touched anything. I wish them well with their new direction, but they may have considered changing the name if they’re going to tarnish decades of high quality food and a pleasant dining experience.

First time, last time. Couple of greeters at the bottom of the staircase were jovial and polite. It was raining so we were super careful getting up the wooden steps…they are slick when wet. Not sure if there is an accessible entrance so hopefully the owner will chime in with a response. We made it safely to the top and opened the door to a “hostess counter” where we encountered a third staff member…this one seemed begrudged to be there and halfheartedly asked “what can I do for you”. Our party of two were seated with menus and sleeved silverware. It was early in the evening, 5pm-ish, and raining so it was not busy. Our waiter quickly took our drink orders and brought those right back with delicious hush puppies and honey butter spread. *napkins need to be on the table or brought with the first food item. We watched each table after us reach for the greasy hush puppies then realize there were no napkins

The best part about this place is the service. Everyone smiles and is so attentive to all the guests. Our waiter gave us great advice in things to do in the area that was spot on. The food was solid too but nothing too extraordinary. The atmosphere is a little dull but the view of the water is pretty nice. Overall it’s a solid place to have fresh local seafood at reasonable prices.

My husband and I stopped in last night hoping to get a drink. There was a sign outside clearly stating the last seating time was 7:45pm but we were hoping the bar might be open later. No luck, but the bartender gave us each a free drink to enjoy on the picnic tables outside. All the staff we interacted with in our brief time there seemed eager to please. And the outdoor space was the perfect place to enjoy a drink at dusk. We were impressed!

Great casual seafood place! We got a table for our party of 3 right away. Our server, Liz, was great, attentive, and kind. They had a great selection of draught beers, and the crab dip appetizer was delicious. Platter portions were generous. The view over the estuary was lovely in the evening. We’d recommend this place to other people and would come back!

Our server Landon earned an A+. The building itself needs updated, and the stairs to get in are pretty treacherous, but if you make it that far, you will enjoy an excellent fresh fish meal.

Really enjoyed my food here. I’ve seen the other reviews and most of them are way off base as they’re set in their old ways and cannot accept change. Food was great, service was wonderful. I will return the next time I visit Sunset Beach!
