The Country Cupboard is a cute little diner in Carterville, IL. The service is prompt, good, and friendly. The prices are very reasonable and best of all, the food is very good. My chili-mac was excellent, as was my husband’s beef stew. The breakfasts the grands had looked really good too.

Phenomenal breakfast. Fast and cheap. Best biscuits and gravy in town. Small diner feel. Efficient service with a smile. American fries are fantastic and crispy. My favorite Saturday morning spot. Daily specials. Decent location. The weird intersection at division and 13 is manageable.

Ate here late (well, close to closing time) on a Thursday night. Staff was helpful, friendly and accommodating. Food was all very tasty too. A lot of American-style home-cooked/diner type options. I had the chicken friend steak with green beans and slaw. Other adults in my party had the ham steak and Swiss steak special. All were very good. Two kids had fish sticks and corn dog, they liked those as well. Tried the homemade cherry pie. Looks like they had a lot of pies available, but by the time we ate, the only options left were no-sugar peanut butter, raisin and cherry. Running out of pies is either a very good or very bad sign…fortunately for us, it turned out it was a good sign. Cherry was the choice, and it was very, very good – tart but not too tart, and filling made from actual cherries, not canned filling.

I sat down patiently and waited for a waitress that did not come to me but did serve others who arrived after I did. I made eye contact with two waitresses that did not come to even ask me if I wanted a beverage. I’m sure the good ole boys and gals were more important. I would not recommend if you’re passing through this area. The service compared to Carbondale is like night and day.
