I was in Rochester for business , I’ve been traveling outside the US for sometime and really wanted some American soul food. I cannot express how this food hit every spot . I was in Rochester 7 days and ate here 3 or 4 days . I tried a variety of dishes and each one was spot on. They told me the cakes are made by an elderly lady and she definitely has the real recipe.

Make sure your order before you leave. I got the Teriyaki Steak & Shrimp. It wasn’t how it looked like in the photos I saw before I bought it and was way less food. The rice was undercooked and had hard pieces that hurt when chewing them. The shrimp and steak were tough. I had the ribs when I ordered here before and they were good but I can’t recommend going here.

I was researching the internet looking for a soul food spot in Rochester. I came across Competition Kitchen and decided to take a chance and give it a try. I’m a very picky eater and have had no success with soul food restaurants in Rochester. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were great for the money! This has to be the best food in town!! If you like soul food but they make a bunch of stuff as well! I couldn’t get a picture because this was the second experience and I had to dig right in. The staff is great everything is clean and the food is off the scale good! I don’t just say that either im extremely picky and the greens, baked Mac, yams, lemon pepper and mild wings and baked chicken all so good! I hope they do good forever with business and become recognized as a place to eat when visiting Rochester. Stay strong competition kitchen!! I believe you’ll you’ll far!
