DON’T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. It’s clear that Maryland didn’t have REAL pizza in the region until Colony came into town. Being from NJ/CT originally, and having family in Stamford, where Colony originates, the pizza is EXACTLY HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO BE. The facility is clean. The staff is very attentive. The pizzas came out in a timely manner. For the comments that say the menu is not “big enough”, then go somewhere else. Colony is a PIZZA spot that specializes in PIZZA and that’s all they need. Overall, a great experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

My fiancé grew up in CT, so he essentially ate Colony on a regular basis. When he found out that there was a Colony Grill in MD, he was super thrilled. This was my first time dinning at Colony, not my first time eating their pizza (the hubby brought me a whole one home after his first visit to the Potomac location). I understand that thin crust is not for everyone, but the one-star reviews sadden me. If you’re not from CT or are not familiar with this style pizza, just say so!!! The crust is supposed to be thin, crispy, and slightly charred!! The cheese brown and gooey!!! I really enjoyed my salad pizza. The crust was perfect and the salad was huge!!! Topped with fresh greens, plump cherry tomatoes, crispy cucumbers, white onion rings and drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette, this salad pizza did not disappoint!! It was quite the bang for my buck at $13.50!!! This IS a PIZZA joint!!! So you’re not going to get a typical pizza joint menu like you do elsewhere in the DMV. If you want variety, go to a greasy sticky spoon pizza/sub-shop like Ledo’s or any NY-style grub hub. Colony is worth checking out!!!

Easily close to the taste and quality of the Clarendon location. Hot oil pie hits the spot, as always. Anyone who’s judging this place too harshly is either unfamiliar with the bar style pie, or are giving a new location grief while they’re getting a hang of the ropes. Glad to have one on this side of the Potomac, and I will be back for sure. If you’re dissuaded by a 1 star review, stop in and make the judgement for yourself.

This place opened on 19 June, and we ate there on 25 June, so they’re still shaking it down a bit. Was seated outside on the patio by the hostess who had an ipad to assign tables. Had an excellent server who they brought down from their original location in Connecticut who was super; he was there to help train the new local staff. The pizza was exactly like their other location in Arlington that I have been to many times—thin crust, which you can get well done or charred if you’d like, and most people like the hot oil topping in addition to whatever else. Had beer on draft of which they have several good ones. The price was super reasonable for the pizza and the beer. The view from the outdoor patio is really nice in the evening, see photos. Complainer reviewer below somehow said the view was of dumpsters, but he’s wrong; complainer reviewer also said the pizza was “ok,” but actual customers were talking about how good the pizza was; complainer reviewer was also thinking people would not be able to find it on the back side of the building, but he’s wrong about that too. There were people waiting for tables to become available, and about every two minutes someone would be walking out with carry out boxes of pizzas (two and three boxes at a time) so plenty of people found it during the one hour we were there. Recommend it over the nearby Gregorios for sure.

I was so hoping for a good pizza restaurant in this shopping center after Broadway closed more than a year ago. Colony Grill did not live up to the hype from other reviewers. To judge a good pizza, I always start with a basic cheese pizza (the old less is more mantra) and theirs, quite simply was tasteless, and I still have a bad taste in my mouth from eating a charred crust. I just don’t get it! I felt like I was eating a slightly better matzo pizza, but the sauce and crust were just so bland. The hubs ordered meatballs on his, and the meatballs were bland too. The crust was charred and just not palatable. I also do not get the marketing for this restaurant. We lived in Fairfield county, CT for 12 years and had never heard of Colony Grill. I guess the original restaurant was called a grill because they offered more options than just pizza, and the green shamrock (which would lead one to believe it’s an Irish pub) comes from the original Irish neighborhood. But, neither fit a restaurant that offers only three non-beverage items on their menu – pizza, salad pizza and breakfast pizza. How is this sustainable? If your only menu options are pizza, then it better be amazing! Colony’s pizza crust is crisp (and too charred for my taste) but has none of the delicious chewiness I expect from even a thin crust. For me, the crust is the foundation of a good pizza. Without it, nothing works. The sauce was thinly applied which is fine if the crust has anything going for it. But, I could not even taste the sauce. The cheese was also used sparingly which is healthier but, again, it added nothing to the flavor. How they are going to compete with other pizza restaurants in the area – Piccoli Piatti, Mamma Lucia, Gregorios, Potomac Pizza, and even Mod Pizza or Flippin Pizza – is a conundrum for me. I would prefer any of them over Colony Grill. The ambiance in the restaurant was very nice, but I am skeptical that the size of the restaurant and limited menu will sustain this business. I would give service a B-. Considering that the pizzas likely needed to be cooked for under 5 minutes, it was slow to arrive at our table. We also had to ask for more water. The staff seemed a bit disinterested even when we tried to engage. The restaurant was fairly quiet on this day at lunchtime, so service should have been top notch, again, since there’s so little on the menu. And finally, it doesn’t help that they offer Pepsi rather than Coke beverages.

We stopped by after a swim meet for team lunch. The staff was very accommodating and setup a space for the kids and adults. Ordering is easy off the small menu. I got a pizza with hot oil and stingers (serrano peppers). It is as very spicy, but good. We also got a salad pizza which was piled high with salad. Our daughter got a pizza with black olives. The crust and is thin and the cheese goes to the edge. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Somehow they even figured out how to get every family in the large group their own check. We will definitely be back?

This place is fantastic. I went for a relaxing dinner and Colony Grill exceeded my expectations. The food came out fast and the service was amazing. My server, Eric, was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. His pizza recommendations were delicious and our food came out promptly. Even the management was friendly and came out to greet us at our table. We sat on the patio and had a phenomenal view of the green field outside. The cocktails were delicious and fairly priced. I highly recommend this spot to anyone look for a relaxing, affordable night out!

I am from CT so I know good pizza. This pizza was very bland and the other 3 adults I was with agreed. One of them put salt on it and said it helped. It tasted like matzo pizza, which is fine for kids. My 13 year old liked it. Salad pizza was good for the salad only. Not for the pizza underneath.

The pizza was not as good as we get at Arlington location. We ordered 2 hot oil stingers and another with cherry peppers. All the pizzas were chewy as if the pizza was reheated again and again. I would go to Arlington location as the pizza’s there are better and not that chewy. The location is good. Hot oil stingers was never this spicy at other locations in Arlington and Stamford(CT)
