Cocina Mariposa opened in August 2019 and is located inside the Eureka Municipal Golf Course golf shop. My #1 favorite restaurant in Humboldt County. Great food at a great price. Honestly I’m not a burrito guy so it took me a while to try one here, but Cocina Mariposa changed my mind and has my now favorite burrito of all time – shredded chicken with beans, rice, and salsa. Perfectly seasoned, great portions all around, and simply mouthwatering. Also, if you haven’t come for breakfast to try their chilaquiles, you’re missing out.

Oh man…I can’t say enough good things about this place. Pictured are the fish tacos covered in pico de gallo with a side of salsa macha warning spicy lovers: this salsa was like a nuclear bomb on the tongue I’ve now tried 3 of their spiciest salsas and have come to the conclusion that I’m a wimp when it comes to the heat levels Cocina Mariposa is armed with! And I mean that in the best way. It’s hard to find good Mexican food around Humboldt, but Cocina Mariposa beats out ALL the Mexican joints I’ve tried in the Bay Area and that is saying something. The folks who run it are friendly—the chef is freaking amazing. Oh and the chips and bean dip? With a little sprinkle of cotija? I wish I could marry it. The ONLY downside is it’s location…sometimes it’s hard to compete with the golfing crowd for parking and such. I hope to see Cocina Mariposa expand to a much larger space eventually!

This is one of best Mexican Restaurants in Humboldt County. From the chips to the entree everything is fresh and made from scratch. I had the enchiladas with rice and beans. My wife had the fried fish tacos. We will certainly be back to try more.

Great flavor! I had the suf n turf fries and my sis had the quesabirria tacos. The seasoning they put on the food is so flavorful!. Great service. Dining is outside or to go. Covered patio. Will definitely try this place again.

Location is nice with awesome outdoor seating on summer days and the spicy bean dip and chips appetizer is very delicious. I’m vegan so having a portion of the menu with items laid out was very nice, the jackfruit and fries dish is amazing. Best Mexican in Eureka by far!

How have I not reviewed this gem yet? The owner Mari is as sweet as she is talented. The food is incredible with a variety of vegetarian options! Recommend sitting outside with a view of the beautiful golf course grounds. And make sure you get extra bean dip app and try one of the daily Agua Fresca or Horchata!
