Not much has changed since George Washington frequented Christiana Campbell’s Tavern for its delicious seafood in the 18th century. Lively conversation and learned discussion still abound, and today’s menu items could easily have been ordered by our founding fathers. Dig into locally sourced shrimp, scallops, and fish, and be sure to try Christiana’s famous crab cakes, while listening to members of the Waterman’s Family play and sing in the lobby.
Washington dined in the original of this faithfully recreated tavern now serving fine Southern fare. Based on 586 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.7 stars. Price $$$

If you have never been here, you must treat yourself and go. Make sure you make reservations in advance though. This place is delightful! Not only are the waitresses wonderful, the food is superb! You get a 1700’s experience while you are there. They give you a History lesson and entertainment during your dinner experience. They even teach you how to wear your napkin as they did back in the 1700’s as you will see how the waitress demonstrated on my husband in the picture! If you have never been, you must treat yourself and go! I ate the Seafood Pye which included Shrimp, Lobster, Scallops and flounder with a Croissant, and with Lobster Sauce. My husband had the Crab Cakes. These entrees were delicious! The Sweet Potato Muffins we got were to die for! I will go back again and highly recommend this place!

We really enjoyed our experience here. The menu is very well done, citing the origins of recipes and even including them in the description. The seafood pye was delicious and the oysters on the half shell had a brilliant layering of flavors while also balancing with historic ingredients. A lovely woman played the harp while we ate and it was so soothing after a long day of walking around in the summer heat. Don’t let the prices deter you. This place is worth it.

Great service and interesting food offerings here. Yes, the sweet potato muffins were exemplary, and the seafood pie and crab cake were delicious. Pass on the oyster ragoo, it seemed a bit like watery celery soup with some oyster in it. Overall a good dining choice.

This restaurant adds onto the old town aesthetic that Williamsburg Virginia is known for. Really nice to hear a person playing the harp too. There are a few interesting facts presented by the waitresses which make is really 5 star. If you want the experience, consider it a 5 star experience. It’s a bit expensive, but again, if you’re looking for the experience, go for it…!

The fried fish dinner was flounder and absolutely the best fish dinner that I’ve ever had! Lovely entertainment and our server was excellent. I can’t remember his name, but he was from Turkey. All of the staff were cordial and made you feel right at home. Well worth the higher cost. Photos are the flounder, apple pie, and trifle

I ate here for my birthday. I didn’t stay at Williamsburg or do the tours, just wanted to enjoy an expensive dinner. The staff all dress in colonial wear still. All of the food was delicious. I’m honestly surprised how much I loved the pease soup. My least favourite dish was honestly the dessert (rum tart), but I think I was just surprised how much alcohol I could taste in it. Highly recommend this place. It’s expensive but the food is so fresh and amazing, and the atmosphere is unique.

This is a must food experience! Delicious! Fun time travel experience with the atmosphere, costumes, and music! Food was amazing! Large portions ! Save room for dessert (apple pie and ice cream – delicious)! We had the Seafood Pye and Oyster Ragoo – both were beyond words! Service was perfect! Checkout the bar in lower level! Memorable way to celebrate my history buff daughter’s birthday!

Ten years and it was worth the wait. And I was not disappointed in my reservation as handled through OpenTable. I arrived a few minutes before my assigned time, and was immediately sat at a table very much to my liking. Another great improvement real candles on the tables. That was not the case during a visit to another Tavern last year. Glad to hear of that change. My server Kimberly at Table 5 was efficient and knowledgeable about the menu for the evening. I had to try the Green Pease Soup and The Seafood Pye. As spelled in the 1700’s I must say the Soup was better than I expected and I would order it again, and the Seafood Pye was really spectacular and will be added as one of my favorites. You should really try Christiana Campbells Tavern as one of your go to places when you visit Colonial Williamsburg.
