One of the best authentic indian restaurant in the chapel hill area. We enjoyed their thali’s and fish fry. The samosa starters were also yummilicious!

Great food. Uh very great food. We were a party of 5 and we sat at the side near the bar. It was just us and another table so the server didnt check on us much near the end. The parking is horrendous but its not the restaurant’s fault, just be aware. Food was amazing, big portions, and flavorful. Good vegetarian options too.

Solid South Indian cuisine. Lamb vindaloo had a pleasant spiciness, definitely on the hotter side for an order without any explicit request to make it hot. Great flavors, and felt quite authentic, particularly the chicken chettinad. Naan came with a butter sauce that tasted like a classic tikka masala and complimented the spicy south Indian dishes nicely. I am glad I tried them.

Some friends and I decided on this place for dinner and the hostess and the food were absolutely delightful. Our server on the other hand visited our table about 7 times in two hours. We had to track him down to order more drinks, and place our order while he was all over the table next to us. Definitely felt like it was a case of profiling younger people as not worth the time. If the tip is included why bother trying right?

I love trying all the food here, never had one bad thing. Love the service and every new creation they come up with. If you want to ensure you’re going to have good food, go here. Perfect servings and plating.

The food was good and the portions were just right. However the service was a bit underwhelming. My friend also went to the toilet and saw one of the staff wash their hands without soap. We have just gone through a pandemic and I would expect everyone to be extra aware of hygiene now so it was disappointing to hear that from my friend.

Went there on Mother’s Day. UNC graduation too! Very busy but the food was excellent and the space inviting.

Friendly staff and good ambience. They are understaff so expect delay. Food was good as well.

I lived nearby for years, but with all the other options on Franklin Street, I never wound up at Cholanad. I’m glad I finally did! I got the pepper chicken appetizer, and it was really flavorful without being overwhelmingly hot. The chicken was also perfectly cooked, which I really appreciate (I cringe whenever I find myself paying restaurant prices for dry chicken). My husband’s chicken curry dish was also delicious. The staff accommodated us when we walked in about 30 minutes before closing time, which we really appreciated, and the service was excellent.

The food was pretty good. Not the best though far better than one of the other Franklin Street area Indian restaurants we tried. The service was mediocre. Our waitperson Lindsay was good and attentive, but some of the other staff seemed like they were lost. One guys was super friendly to patrons, but rather rude to the other staff. We ordered two drinks that were overpriced and total junk. We mentioned it to our waitperson whom insisted that they make us new drinks personally. The 2nd round was very good! However based on this experience we’ll probably order takeout the next time we want food from CholaNad. Cheers!
