We discovered China Star while shopping and what a happy surprise it is. The restaurant is tucked away in a small strip mall on North Roxboro but inside was cozy and quaint. It offered the usual Chinese cuisine for a takeout restaurant BUT there was nothing usual about the food. First, the portions are huge. Second, they are delicious. The dumplings are not doughy but thinly wrapped and fried to perfection. The chicken fried rice is surprisingly savory with large chunks of chicken. My partner loved his tangy sesame chicken. My shrimp with Chinese vegetables were covered in a spicy brown sauce that just gave the entire dish so much flavor. For a fairly usual Chinese takeout restaurant, China Star is extraordinary and lives up to its name.

I frequent this place when I can, and I’ll explain that more in a moment. I call in my order and they usually have it ready very quickly. I usually get appetizers that include egg drop soup, which is great, teriyaki chicken skewers, which are awesome, and the shrimp egg roles, which are some of the best I’ve ever had and I usually have to resist ordering a million of them. As far as an entree goes, I usually get lo mein of some kind or pepper steak, among other items. The food is always fresh, cooked really well, and just so freaking delicious. It’s not the hot, greasy garbage most places serve up as takeout. I ask for some modifications, such as adding broccoli or getting my entrees extra spicy, and they always oblige. I never have to guess if they’ve made the modifications, as you can see in the photo of my extra spicy pepper steak with added broccoli. The cost is still super, super reasonable even with rising prices everywhere. I’d highly recommend trying this place out.

Stopped by for dinner. Ordered the roast pork with Chinese vegetable that also came with white/steamed rice. The food was ok, nothing special and the portion was rather generous. I do like the roast pork. They used to not allow dine in (only takeout orders) but as of Fall 2022, they do allow dine in now.

It was ok. I’m definitely not thinking about my next meal there or even ordering the same thing. I ate here for the first time today. Maybe I’ll go back just out of curiosity once I get over the smell of course. I don’t know how to describe it exactly but when you first walk in, it does kind of hit you in the face and make you wonder if possibly you could overlook it and just maybe the food is great or good even. I had the General Tsos. I wasn’t exactly upset, just surprised. My meat tasted like it had hot sauce on it. It was not a version of General Tsos I had ever had before and the pork fried rice was decent. The egg roll was greasy as egg rolls tend to be but I’ve had greasier so ‍♀️ not bad I guess, pretty basic. Till next time…maybe

Been there many times. I have tried several dishes and have always been pleased. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. They will remain my go to for Chinese takeout in the area.

Was just sitting in front of the door when I ping the site. And it was closed at 6:30 pm.

Awful, hot & sour soup was thick like gravy, very spicy and very sweet. Hunan chicken and also the beef was a good spicy, but so sweet. Both dinners and soups not edible.

There was a cockroach half smashed crawling on the floor. No one seemed give a care. The food was warm, and I had indigestion the whole night. I was so close to giving my food away. I wish I never ate here. I don’t trust 4 or 5 star ratings. This place should be inspected ASAP.

My family has eaten here a couple of times and have been pleased both times. They give you generous portions at a great price. I love the steamed pork dumplings and my son loves the General Tso’s chicken. The Lo Mein is fresh and has tons of meat! They have gone above and beyond to make it as contactless as possible while still convenient.
