The big potato
dropped in during a road trip…didnt expect much but it turned out to be pretty good. If you go with stir fry items as opposed to fried ones, you’d get a more balanced authentic taste. The place looks a bit plain but really clean.

Surprised by the authentic taste in such a small town take-out restaurant. The quantity is also surprisingly big. Highly recommended.

Read that as 3.5 stars. The pork egg foo yung is very tasty and the packaging is well done and white plastic and not aluminum so the dish is easily micro waved.

The food was atrociously vile. The General Tso chicken was with out chicken, and was filled with water-logged dough. The crab rangoons were putrid. Felt like puking after my tongue touched it. I have never had food worse than this in my entire life.

One of the worst meals ever. Veg & Shrimp. The shrimp were those tiny canned Shrimp smothered in a tasteless sauce with mushy veggies. Did you ever get canned shrimp in a Chinese meal? They were as tiny as a pinky nail on a baby and rationed like they were gold. It went right in the trash. They owed me ribs because last time I bought there, they had been boiled but had no sauce. This time they were even worse. The owner said they were too expensive and he was losing money. I told him take it off the menu or serve it correctly. That is a problem he needs to solve. So he gave me a free order today. I would not even give them to my dog as they were most likely the poorest quality he could find. No BBQ sauce, just boiled and all fat. No meat at all just that soft white, shimmery fat that can make you vomit. Years ago when this place opened it was great. It must have changed hands. I was living in another State and returned a month ago. This place is not worth it. Save your money. We have some good Asian Restaurants in Montpelier now. Scratch this place from your list. You should never settle for this kind of food when there are many good places to eat in town.

I don’t know if China Star is under new management, I haven’t been in a couple years, pre Covid. But wow, something has changed. The sweet and sour chicken, was almost all bread, no chicken … Kids didn’t it eat it. The seasame chickens was, I don’t know what. Maybe pork? It was tough and chewy and stringy. Not tender like chicken used to be. And the pork fried rice was about as bland as could be. Not sure I will give them a second chance or not. This was pretty much $50 in the garbage.

Really like the people here. Generous portions, my favorite veggie fried rice for miles and miles. They have always accomodated us when we have people with allergies in our group, helping us to choose safe options. And they’re open later hours when the rest of the town is rolled up for the night.

Feels like new Owners. I never have Big expectations when ordering American-Chinese Food but they are just Cutting way to many Corners recently.
