Typically a Go To Oriental. Good quality white meat chicken but not so much on the beef. Broccoli a bit overcooked for my liking. I recommend more like moo goo . Egg rolls good and more authentic cooks. Very good prices. Better than any other fast food. Too americanized sauce.

Love the simple food, great pricing. I just get take out so the atmosphere is not applicable. Basically good Chinese American dishes fir a good price. Try the Moo goo gai pan.

We’re not from around here and were passing through town late Saturday evening. Wife wanted Chinese food and found this place still open. Didn’t know about all the negative reviews and the state inspection visit in the press at the time.

The flavors! We are new to town. Was going to order Rolling Wok but they closed soon, Tsing Tsao but their line was busy at 7:45p so we ordered take out at China House. Everything came out correct and super delicious! We ordered orange chicken which has a fire flavor, combo fried rice and steamed veggie that came with tasty family recipe teriyaki sauce on the side which was phenomenal since my toddler is picky about flavors we all enjoyed all the veggies.

Dine-in area was taken up by storage and left little room customers. The floors, tables, windows, and window coverings were dirty, with extensive repairs needed. Was unable to see into kitchen. However after last state inspection report March 17, 2023, (14 violations including rodents, and unsafe food) it will be a bit before trying this place again. Get it TOGETHER!!!! Your Orange chicken was great, but if it isn’t made in a clean place, it isn’t clean food. Hate to see a place go under so do all of us a favor, get it TOGETHER!!!!

China House of Gao, 2916 E. University Ave., Des Moines – During a March 17 2023 visit, a state inspector cited the restaurant for 14 violations, an unusually high number. Among the issues: The person in charge was not a certified food protection manager; the person in charge was not fulfilling their duties as evidenced by the number and severity of the violations; raw chicken was stored above cream cheese and ready-to-eat noodles, risking cross-contamination; and containers of pork eggroll, fried chicken and crab Rangoon were all stored at 55 to 62 degrees, which was far too warm to ensure their safety.

Really like how consistent China House is with the menu, price, and quality. We moved to the area 7 years ago and haven’t found better!
