Melba’s Bistro is one of the great under appreciates gems in metro LA. Chef Melba worked closely with the legendary Julia Child and it shows. I enjoyed a beautiful butternut squash ravioli in a black garlic sauce which was as much simply prepared as it was elegant, rich and complex. My server Bre was so kind and attentive.

We stopped in without reservations and were still warmly welcomed and seated quickly. Despite a few issues like breaking my beer glass and forgetting a part of my order, the staff and chef/owner quickly rectified the situation and stayed professional and extremely courteous and apologetic. The food was excellent and fresh. Highly recommend.

This place is amazing. Started with Buratta and finished with the creme brulle and chocolate mousse. Both fantastic. My wife had the snapper and I had the king salmon. Perfection. Top it off with a great beer and a nice glass of wine. Delicious. Service and atmosphere above and beyond. Highly recommended!!!

I was visiting Hermosa beach for my first time and was lucky enough to stay across the street from what is now my most favorite restaurant in the world. Chef Melba and John made me feel like I was at home. The food was absolutely amazing and the service and atmosphere were perfect.

First visit to this restaurant, we felt that it could improve and be a good spot but the food did not taste good, the ravioli had an odd taste and the angel hair pasta was mixed with vegetables that did not align with the taste of the pasta. The one server did a great job, but since there was only 1 other table occupied in the entire restaurant of about 15 tables, this should have been a sign to walk away. Wine menu was quite odd as well.

We have been going to Chef Melba’s for over 10 years and it never disappoints. A hidden gem in South Bay, how do people not know about this place?!?! Melba always comes by to catch up with our family and John is always so nice and helpful. Pretty much everything on the menu is amazing…and huge. You will definitely get your $$’s worth. Our personal favorites are the Petrale Sole, ceviche, tuna tartar, and the chocolate bag for dessert.

Just a bit disappointed that red onions were not listed as an ingredient on the menu. Most people probably don’t mind this – but this is a ‘no order item’ if I see it – I don’t like spending the first few minutes fishing it out of my meal (Tortellini)- I would’ve ordered something else. Kind of funny – I heard the waiter speaking with the chef about it once he saw the onions lined on the side of my plate – I heard them say ‘Its in the sauce’. I get it. But there were more red onions in that dish than the items that were listed as ingredients. We’re not talking about finely chopped either. Probably just me – but bummer none the less.

Wonderful presentation of appetizers and main course meals. The bronsino was just perfect as well as the mussels. Thank you!

Our family stumbled across this gem and had an incredible dinner. Everything cooked with passion and love which showed through in the food. Don’t miss out on this local gem!
