Charlie’s was fantastic! They even make their own root beer. Great service, great food!

Food was good. Crinkle-cut french fries, fried just right! Root beer hit the spot. I think all of us enjoyed everything we got!

Charlie’s in Wood river is such a huge disappointment. After what I waitressed……I won’t be returning. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I seen staff treat this Pacific drive up (car) like complete garbage. Once I had received my food I had simply ask how long they’ve been waiting because it was before us. Her reply was they will be “waiting forever”…… They had made that car wait over an HR and they still NEVER RECEIVED THEIR FOOD. The car ended up driving off!!! A day or two passes I seen that same person at family dollar so I had to ask……they never received their food because her son was with her. The owners relation was two of the staff and they “had problems” with this ‘son’. My reply was “you was discriminated against because of someone your son knows?” I just couldn’t believe a place of business would act in this manner until I seen it from my own eyes. It shouldn’t matter who you’re related to or who you have problems with when it comes to a place of business it’s simply that a place of business. People talk around Wood River and honestly I didn’t want to believe that Charlie’s had gone downhill. But I definitely know the original owner would have never stood for this. If all the small businesses in Wood River didn’t associate with people because of them simply knowing them from the past no one would have any business. Wood River is a small town we shouldn’t be treating like this.

If you’re looking for a great drive in atmosphere I implore you to drive down the road to King Louies instead. Ever since the new owners took over food has been mediocre at best. Not only that, but the owner of this establishment believes its okay to post pictures and jokes on social media about a local man about to attempt suicide. Avoid this place like the plague

Been going here for 40 plus years. And never thought I say I am never coming back. The root beer was disappointing. It tasted like it had been water down. My burger tasted like it had been cooked with fish. Miss the old Charles this is not the same.

Terrible place under the new ownership. The owners are deplorable people who take pictures of mentally ill people in crisis and then publicly post it to make jokes and mock them. I used to love Charlie’s as a kid–everyone in town did–and I love to support local businesses, but I will not patron this business nor their other restaurant, 3rd Chute in Grafton, IL, because their behavior is disgusting. Patron anywhere else.

Classic food, classic experience. Sadly Charlie’s is closing its doors after over 30 years. We will certainly miss this place. Hopefully someone will buy it and reopen. We did the drive in on the last weekend, waited almost 3 hours for our last Charlie’s meal. I’ve never waited that long for food, and never seen the place so busy. We’re going to miss you Charlie’s. Best root beer ever
