This place is AWESOME!!!! I had the beef with fries and gravy. Explored Baltimore then came back a 2ND TIME for just the beef. It was absolutely phenomenal. Try the gold bbq sauce. I don’t know what’s in it but bottle it and TAKE MY MONEY$$

I finally made it Chaps Pit Beef! Great service, friendly staff, and the food is great! The meat is delicious, and there are plenty of toppings and drinks! Locals add to the flavor and the prices are reasonable! Kid menu and options are available!

Worth going for the full on experience. This was the second business I visited while testing out the regional “pit beef” sandwich. Everyone was working hard and overall friendly/helpful. I recommend doing research and have your order ready before you get to the window. This isn’t the type place to chitchat (ask for recommendations) with the person taking orders, customers are trying to get in and out. Sandwich was tasty, and the tiger sauce was the right choice for condiment. I wouldn’t say it’s the best in town, but definitely worth trying.

The food here just isn’t what it used to be. And the prices are now ridiculously exorbitant. This mediocre chili dog w slaw and grease-saturated fries was $16.01. No wonder they have all the menu prices blacked out. Had I known the prices before I ordered I would have gone to Texas Roadhouse or somewhere else with a decent dining area. This gritty roadside food stand experience is way overrated.

The best pit beef sandwich in all of Maryland. It’s worth a drive! Always fast and always fresh. Other items are amazing too you really can’t go wrong. They are opening a larger sit-down version in the same parking lot. Diverse crowd. Expect a line, but they are organized and clean. Consistent experience over the past 20 years!

I’m not from here, but I heard Chaps was the place to go for the iconic Baltimore sandwich. Let me tell you, I’m so glad I came here. The pit beef was exquisite, and the sauces were fabulous. When I’m back in Baltimore, I will be stopping here.

Three stars for friendly staff and fast service ! Don’t see the hype surrounding Pit Beef. Wanted to try this Baltimore delicacy while visiting the city but was very underwhelmed. An average bbq/smoked sandwich at any given BBQ restaurant in South is better than the Pit Beef sandwich here. Maybe other sandwiches on the menu are better. Try it for yourself but I say at least visit to try a regional food. Food was featured in multiple food network shows and even in The Wire. An experience for sure. Again the staff was great ! Answered questions and managed crowd very well.

Chaps is my go-to when I’m driving through Baltimore. Pit beef sandwich is always amazing. Pro tip: put both the tiger sauce and housemade BBQ sauce on the same sandwich.
