I’ve always loved eating at Chapala in Weaverville. Absolutely love the owner and his family team that works together. I’m giving it a 4 star rating for food and atmosphere only because when you ask for a mild salsa you get like heated red sauce, like that which you pour over some of the dishes on their menu. The atmosphere is always good but I give it a 4 due to it being so warm in the dining area. A lot of people like it warmer and a lot of people like it cooler. I for one do not like to be freezing cold in a restaurant, however, it is not enjoyable when it’s too warm and humid. Just my opinion! The food is always delicious!!

The food isn’t my favorite, honestly, but my server was amazing! He was a young man and even though I could tell he was tired he was friendly, personable, respectful and attentive. He had a really good attitude and I appreciate that. I think this was his first job but with his skills he’ll go far in whatever direction he wants to go. I ate in the restaurant and then ordered some food to go for my daughter and he put the order in at just the right time so that the food stayed as hot as possible. And I ordered a horchata to go as well and he gave it to me without ice so it wouldn’t be all watered down when I got it home to her. I didn’t even have to ask! That alone is reason enough to go back.

I was not impressed with Chapala Mexican restaurant. The grilled chicken fajitas were 80% peppers, onion, and tomatoes, and had maybe 3 ounces of chicken. The guy said they use half a pound. I’ll post the picture, and it’s a very small fajita pan. They provide three little taco sized tortillas with the fajitas, then charge you for more, instead of giving you larger tortillas or a couple more. That turns the $12 fajitas into $14 fajitas. I guarantee everybody asks for more so they can eat the rest of their peppers and onions after the tiny bit of chicken is gone. The shredded chicken taco seemed like a plain, boiled chicken breast was shredded and put on a tortilla. Zero seasoning. On any of it. The most flavorful part of the meal was the salsa. The only reason I’m giving them three stars instead of two is because service was friendly, attentive, and prompt.

Typically, I like this place, HOWEVER, when you want to call and place an order over the phone, the phone is picked up and then hung up, not once, not twice, but MULTIPLE times. Not very good customer service AT ALL, and not very good for your business that you would like to keep open and have people come to. I understand that sometimes things happen, that cannot be controlled. But every time I call to place an order, I’m hung up on??? Nope, don’t think so. if I could give no stars, trust me, I would simply because of that. Great service inside the restaurant (sometimes), but to answer the phone??? I guess either nobody knows how, or you just don’t want a sale…oh well.

The worst Mexican food we’ve ever had. The taco salad was full of liquid, the burrito actually had *marinara sauce* on it. The chimichangas were small with tasteless chicken. The tamarindo and horchata were good, but that’s the only thing we actually enjoyed.
