Chef Luis Castro, Castro’s Restaurant is an album of memories. Having developed a love and respect of farm-to-table cooking at a young age while growing up in Bogota, Columbia, Castro’s Restaurant is an ode to his journey as chef and a reflection of his roots.
Chef Luis started his career in the kitchen working as a cook in Columbia during high school. After a whirlwind of relocating in pursuit of growth, he found himself working in prestigious positions such as Executive Sous Chef for Morimoto Asia Waikiki and Chef de Cuisine for Michael Mina’s Stripsteak Waikiki. When his love and craving for the latin flavors he grew up eating overpowered his need to learn the next technique, he decided it was time to open a restaurant of his own.
Casual Latin American recipes whipped up in an airy restaurant with wooden beams & outdoor seating. Based on 689 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.8 stars. Price $$

Castro’s has a very relaxed atmosphere and food. It focuses on cuban breakfast and lunch foods.

I got the Cuban breakfast and it was amazing. You have a choice between beans or fruit, definitely get the fruit. It’s not your standard fruit bowl. Lots of fresh local fruits. The staff works hard and has a smile while doing so. Music playing sets the mood while you enjoy your Cuban inspired meal.

Cute spot for lunch. Seating is a little snug, but we managed to find a spot after ordering. They have a local, small menu. I enjoyed the Viejo Roja and my partner loved the Cubano. We didn’t need to order anything beyond the sandwich to feel satiated. The juice of the day was yummy, too. It was kind of annoying how the employees kept chitchatting with another table and therefore encroached on our dining space while we were eating.

Probably the best mean I had on my trip. I got the Cubano, ham and pork roast slices. The sauce was so good. The meat was very tender. The bread was fluffy and crunchy crust. Literally perfect meal. Large portions too and decent price. The staff was very busy but was still accommodating and kind. My wife got the Ropa Vieja and it was also very delicious. Tender meat and great grilled veggies with a yummy spicy mayo kind of sauce. Overall perfect. We also came back a second time to get coffee and it is one of our favs on the island too.

Castro’s is a great little Cuban cafe in the heart of Waikiki. While staying nearby at the Ritz, we walked over and put our name on the waiting list. Only about 25 min wait on a Sunday morning. The only drawback is I wish they had a liquor license for mimosas, cuba libre, mojito, etc.

A bit small as far as seating goes, but the presentation and taste of the food will make it worth it. The avocado toast and lox were fantastic!
