Casanova Italian Restaurant is a landmark of Upcountry Maui. Since 1986 it offers the finest Italian fare. In this historic building the Marines were relaxing in between the battles of the Pacific during WW2. During the ranching years of the 50’s and 60′, Club Rodeo was the place to be for prime rib and line dancing. Since the 90’s Casanova has established itself as the heart of the Upcountry community, be it for an authentic Pizza out of the wood burning oven for a casual evening meal or for the most awarded Italian cuisine in Maui (and the State of Hawaii) in the more formal dining room.

UPDATE: Casanova is by far the best restaurant in Makawao, and is open the latest. We were in town for a month, so we tried a good portion of the menu, and everything was fantastic. All the staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. The bartender is amazing as well. We sat at the bar a few times, and she memorized our orders and was quick to offer our favorite cocktails each time we returned. I hesitate to even mention this, but the lilikoi lemonade cocktail is INCREDIBLE. I hesitate because I’m sure it is a bit obnoxious to make, as it is topped with a lilikoi foam that I would fight someone for. It is SO GOOD. The cafe that they have open in the mornings is also great… pastries are made in-house, and they are flakey, buttery and delicious. Go to Casanova, you won’t be disappointed.

This place is WONDERFUL – food was absolutely perfect! We have eaten here 2 nights in a row it was so good – the lasagna was awesome, noodles amazing, and pizza was….well…..PERFECT! I love pizza and will be fairly picky but this couldn’t have been any better!

Our server was less than attentive causing what could have been easily solvable problems to become much worse. It seems like if you dont have booze, your drinks dont matter, cokes were left empty for most of the meal. Caesars had more dry lettuce than dressed, had the server checked shortly after instead of when we had them for 10 minutes, we could have had them cleared before entree drop. The manager did drop off our food which was a nice touch after the salads, i thought service may improve. It did not, my Moms lamb was so far under the sharp steak knife couldnt cut a peice off. This too could have been fixed had we been checked on after food dropped. By the time some of us finished our food and some hadnt eaten, dessert was out of the question. We asked for boxes and the tab. The server then took the lamb and asked if there was a problem, the manager stopped by again to notify us they had taken it off and then our server showed up with bill in another 10 minutes. I can see the glimmers of what could have been having run restaurants and kitchens, but this time just missed as a whole.

Always love Casanova! We’ve had dinner here several times now, anytime we’re on island. Great staff, good atmosphere, and stellar food. Pizzas and pasta are outstanding and the creams brûlée was the best dessert we had. Be sure to get reservations. Social distancing and capacity rules for covid means a few less tables available.

This place is really good. I’ve never had a calamari steak before. It was crunchy on the outside and tender and perfectly cooked on the inside. Also had the sautéed spinach with pine nuts and parmesan. Delicious. The pizza’s crust was so good it doesn’t matter what toppings you order on it. Ours had red and yellow peppers, Italian sausage, and goat cheese. Fabulous.
